Pretty non-bitter for an IPA. Not much character. It’’s a decent session beer with with a not unpleasant aftertaste to it. like an English IPA if anything but it’s not that good overall. It doesn’t have the bitterness or floral hops that one would hope for. Bottle.

Originally rated December 2005. Last of the four IPA’s I was testing tonight. Purchased at Dépanneur de la Rive in Cap-Rouge, Quebec. Pours a clean amber colour with a crazy big creamy fat head. Retention is extremely long and foamy, so is lacing. Close to the Bièropholie Cascade in appearance. The nose is pretty hoppy, with some notes of green apples. Some wax is felt in the mouth. Smooth bitterness, quite mild actually. Not a bad brew, but prefer the Bièropholie IPA’s much better.

Amber coloured body with a very thin slightly off-white head. Aroma of mostly malty (style?) scents with a little bit of hops, a lot of caramel and some alcohol. Medium-bodied; Assertive malty flavour with alcohol, caramel, nuts and a very subtle pit fruit flavour - only showing a little bit of hops, and not an intense variety. Aftertaste shows more malt and some light spices - nothing too fancy or refined. Overall, this one quite simply isn’t an IPA as you’d think of it - more of an EPA or perhaps at most an APA. I sampled this 341 mL bottle purchased from Depanneur Peluso (Bonisoir) in Montreal, Quebec on 09-April-2009, sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 05-September-2009.

Bottle: Poured a dark hazy amber color ale with a medium slightly off-white foamy head with average retention. Aroma of citrus hops was easily identifiable with also some caramel malt. Taste of bitter and citrus hops are well balance with the caramel malt. Body is above average with low filtration is very enjoyable. Overall, this is better then expected from this hit or miss brewery.

(Bottle 50 cl) Comes as "L’Alchimiste India Pale Rousse". Pours a clear amber with a small, creamy, off-white head. Malty nose with hints of spices. Rather light body with vague caramel accents and some lightly spicy, perfumy touches from the aroma hops. Dry, hoppy finish. 270106
