Big Sound Scotch Ale is dedicated to our good buddy Gino, the most punk rock bagpiper you’ll ever meet, and the rest of the men and women of Tampa Bay Pipes and Drums. Brown in color, Big Sound has huge notes of dark sweet toffee with underlying mild notes of coffee in the aroma. The flavor starts with a slight note of cherry and then opens into a Goliath of a malt character with notes of dark sweet toffee, slight hints of coffee and mild notes of toasted bread in the finish. Big Sound Scotch Ale pairs well with Haggis, Highland Games, Huge Heads and Enormous Pillows and of course Bagpipe music.

Bottle: Poured a deep brown burgundy color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of rich sweet malt with some deep notes of caramel and toffee is enjoyable though very close to the overly sweet territory. Taste is also an enjoyable mix between some rich sweet malt with deep notes toffee and caramelized sugar. Body is quite full with OK carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I usually like some peat malt in my scotch ale but not sure it would have benefited this one since there is so much residual sugar.

Bottle packed to Boise thanks to Ibrew2or3 Pours out a dark brown topped with a small tan head. Aroma is of sweetness pitfruit, light chocolate notes and some rich malts. Taste much as the aroma more of the sweetness a rich malts. A little nut but very light. A tasty one. I wish I would have had this side by side with the BA one.

750ml bottle pours a translucent brown with a spitty, spotty, white head. Aroma is sweet, fruity, caramel, a little peat, pears, slight chocolate. Flavor is sweet, earthy, caramel, cookie dough, malts, lightly peaty. Full bodied with a little alcohol burn.

on tap at CCB, pours cloudy brown with a medium tan head. Lots of caramel malt in the aroma is a hot scotch note. Flavor is rich and bready with brown sugar and nice yeast flavors.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty chocoalte and dark fruit aroma with hints of caramel. Fruity malty toffee and dark fruit flavor with some hints of hops and some hints of chocolate. Has a sweetish malty spicy dark fruit and toffee finish.

Bottle 75cl. @ cgarvieuk - Cigar City tasting.Clear medium to dark red brown color with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, chocolate - coffee, berry - cherry. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, dried dark berry, light chili - peppery finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20100206]

Bottle @ cgarvieuk, paired with the bourbon aged version. Brown colour, tan head. Aroma of toasted malts, sour fruits, molasses, spices. Flavour of roasted malts, sour fruits, slightly sour, vanilla. Fairly bitter finish.

Bottle courtesy of dkachur on 09/12/2009. Slightly cloudy dark brown body with a small off-white head. Sweet roasty and slight smoky aroma. Sweet chocolate, roasty, slight smoky flavor. Medium full body with moderately low carbonation.

750 ml bottle from Suttree. Pour is dark burgundy, clear ruby and a firm, pretty three inch tan head. Thick chewy lacing left behind as the beer falls. This is a really nice looking beer. Aroma of earthy, grainy natural maltiness - just a hint of charred roastiness behind. After the beer opens, there is some vegetal green pepper that comes out, detracting a bit. Taste is the nose, earthy and malty, green pepper behind that, and finishing with the lingering charred roastiness. Nice transition of flavors, though not a ton of integration. Palate is medium, perhaps on the lighter side of Scotch Ale. Just a hint of alcohol, which made this a nice warmer. This was a good one. Thanks for sending this my way Phil.
