Bottled. BB-date is exceeded by ca 17 months and the beer has matured. Slightly hazy golden with an enormous white head and intense carbonation. Aroma is citric with banana and spices. Mostly the same in flavor. Fizzy mouthfeel. Finish is bitter, with spicy notes. The beer has not been for sale since 2003, but are expected to be brewed again in 2006. Rating: 6-3-6-2-13-3. (051113)
Ok, so it is brewed again, I have had several bottles already, and it is now time for a rerate. It is hazy and yellow-golden, with a medium off-white head and sediments in the bottle. Spicey, wheaty nose, with some fruity and light citrusy notes, and some yeast and medicine-like aromas. The citrus, spices, yeast, medicine and wheat is present in the flavor too. There also is a nice sweetness to balance it. Medium body and a spicey and hoppy finish that stays in the mouth for a while. It took some time for me to adapt to this version, but now I like it. The old one which matured very well, and almost turned into a belgian blond is good too, but it can’t be counted as a wit anymore, even though I will certainly enjoy the bottles left in my cellar. Bottle, #395. It pours a hazy slighlty pale orangey golden body and a big off-white head. Citrusy nose with orange quite evident, as well as wheat and coriander. Quite dry and effervescent in the mouth, but with a pleasant malty sweetness as well. Quite full-bodied, with lots of fruityness, mostly zesty orange, and wheat and coriander blending in. A fine resiny, peppery bitterness follows you until the very end. Far from a big beer, but refreshing as hell, and very tasty. A winner in the summer heat, and lovely with the mussels. (090302)

Clementine peel. Milky yellow with yeast clumps. Thinish (and tinnish) taste, spicy finish. Lacks definition. Ok body sparkly mouthfeel.

Bottled. Cloudy pale yellow. Orangey aroma. Medium sweet with some rounded papery malt, but still fairly thin. There’s som oraneg jam, but the flavour is quite short, and IMO this beer does not live up to the very high expectations I have on Nøgne Ø.

Rerate, new recipe: 500 ml bottle. Batch # 236, brewed 12.03.2006. Hazy golden colour, large white head. Strong aroma of new-mown grass, coriander and citrus, some banana too. Flavour has coriander, some citrus and very distinct and slightly medicinal hops, which remind mind a bit of NØ Saison. Quite dry. I belong to the minority who preferred the previous version.
Original rating: (500 ml bottle). Thick sediment in bottle. I turned the bottle upside down a couple of times, like the brewers recommend, to get maximum pleasure out of the yeast. The result was that my pants now have the unmistakenly typical witbier aroma of coriander, cloves, over-ripe bananas and orange peel. The rest of the beer hit my glass, and there the aroma was even better! After the ENORMOUS foamy head had subsided a little, I found out there was actually beer underneath - colour: Cloudy golden, nearly brownish. Flavour: Again typical wit - coriander, cloves and orange peel. Very refreshing. Moderate aftertaste. How wonderful that the "lager desert" of Norway now has an uncompromising micro brewery that DARE make good beer!
