This Japanese Classic Ale is a recreation of the first Japanese beer made in the Edo period. Please enjoy the Japanese taste, matured in cedar barrels like the old IPA style method from England. bottle-conditioned IPA. Chinook, Fuggles, and Kent Goldings hops are used.

Bottle bought at the brewery in Ibaraki, Japan on my last visit. An amber coloured pour with a small white head on top. Woody, fruity aroma. Tastes spicy, fruity, bitter, dry, peppery, bitter, slight hoppiness. An interesting effort.

Amber with a small white head. Hoppy aroma of peach and grapefruit, with rather obvious perfumed cedar, and some pine and spice. Sweet and fruity flavour with a slightly bitter finish and again quite a bit of cedar.

[Courtesy of igniztion] Pours cloudy orange with a off-white head. Aroma is woody and spicy. Taste is light sweet and very woody taste with a bitter spicy finish. Body is medium, texture is thin, carbonation is soft.

24.3 oz bottle into a tulip. Pours a hazy orange with a medium off-white head that sticks around. Aroma is skunky bananas. Taste is mostly sweet and a bit bitter in the finish. I taste a bit of pepper. Dry. Medium carbonation and body. I like my IPAs American-style. This isn’t one of those.

Pour orange/amber with a large lasting creamy head.Nose shows light fruity hops, orange marmalade, fruit confectionery, loads of caramel and golden syrup and a spicy, woody character (presumably the cedar!) Pretty full on.Similarly sweet, syrupy flavours, loads more caramel, orange marmalade and distinct cedar. Faint piney, resinous hops, but any bitterness is utterly overwhelmed by the copious amount of malt.Carbonation is pretty low and could be upped a fair bit, that’s my main criticism.Other than that, really nice stuff.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange amber with a yellowish tan head that dissipated slowly and laced slightly. Aroma has a note of pine and cedar with a relatively strong backbone of sweet grain. Flavor starts with pine but mellows to more of a cedar note with a backing sweet grain note and a hint of light fruits..

New Beer Distributors 11.2oz ($3.45): Pours a sediment filled peachy amber color with a bright white head. Aroma of a bunch of things, definitely some fruit, although I can’t pinpoint it. Plenty of malts and the hops take second whistle in the aroma. Well, they take the back seat in the taste as well. And that isn’t a bad thing really, it is just an indication that this a more English IPA. Anyway, it is a little sweet, with plenty of fruitiness. Wood is there (presumably from the cedar again process). Some astringency. Medium bodied. Tastes really nice with spicy Asian food (which I was eating entirely coincidentally).

Au fut @ Redlight Redlight, Orlando. Brumeuse avec des tons cuivre. Superbement bien réalisée, le cèdre rajoute des notes d’épices et de bois ainsi que une fine couche de fruit qui me rappelle le melon avec qcq pointes de levure, le houblon est également présent (pamplemousse) et parfaitement en balance avec le cèdre. Une fine amertume se dégage mais laisse la place a ce cote boisé qui est vraiment exquis.

Draft. Hazy, deep golden body. Frothy, off-white head, slowly diminishing. Aroma of toasted malt, cookie and bread, floral hops and earthiness. Noes of orange and honey. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lighlty sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation. Sweetness and bitterness are nicely proportioned for an IPA. A softer presentation than American IPAs, especially in the mouthfeel which is less carbonated and less crisp. Very nice.
