Robust Porter

Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Founders’ robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. It’s a lover, not a fighter.

Pours thick and black from the bottle and leaves a large, creamy beige head. An aroma of rich dark chocolate greets the nose, accocmpanied by smokey slightly burnt notes. The taste is sweet chocolate up front, before sliding into a finish marked by both a light sourness and strong roasted bitterness. The body is heavy, smooth, and the brew has overall a rich, creamy feel in the mouth. I still prefer Anchor Porter, but this is excellent stuff.

Bottle from Stone shared. Lots of deep, rich cacao notes on the nose, some dark fruit as it warms. More cacao and fruit on the palate with some light vanilla undertones. Rich and decadent, but very nice.

From a 355ml bottle on 28/8/2016. Pours a dark, dark brown with a tiny tan head. The nose is very chocolatey and malty. Masses of chocolate present on tasting, with some molasses, and a moderate roasty bitterness finishing things off at the back. Tne texture is creamy and the carbonation average. A very good porter.

Tap at Founders. Lots of blackberries, dark chocolate, brown sugar, some stale coffee too. Quite sweet with soft roasted bitterness. Over medium bodied with slick feel. Nice beer but a bit weird for a porter.

0.355 l bottle from ’P&M Getränke’, best before November 2016 (according to the annoying import label). Pitch black with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, light brown head. Sweetish-malty, lightly roasty aroma of milk chocolate, milk coffee, hazelnut and vanilla. Sweet, malty and slightly roasty taste of milk chocolate, milk coffee, toasted nuts, some vanilla and a touch of licorice, followed by a short, moderately roasty-bitter finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice one, but expected more. Tasty, but rather ordinary Porter, especially the mouthfeel does not fully convince.

Shared 12 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nose is Roasted malt and chocolate. Taste is roasted malt and chocolate and coffee notes. Finish had some disconcerting mineral undertones. Nevertheless, it’s still a good porter.
