Brewed on: October 10, 2011. Packaged on October 25, 2011. Our first ever collaborative beer has all the familiar flavors of the season, but done with Epic style. To a base of strong, roasty, and chocolaty porter, we add 200 pounds of real pumpkin per batch, five spice and whole Madagascar vanilla beans. As you pour this deeply ruby brown beer, you’re greeted by the aroma of fresh cut squash, followed by rich chocolate. The flavor starts sweet with marshmallow, vanilla, and some pumpkin pie, then yields to a coffee roast and dark chocolate dryness. This beer is a great introduction for curious drinkers and a special holiday treat for fans of the style.

A nice dark brown porter with a thin brown head. In aroma, a sweet chocolate with pumpkin spices. In mouth, a smooth chocolate malt with pumpkin spices, OK. On tap at Snallygaster DC, Oct. 13 2012.

Bomber. Nose of pumpkin pie, spices: cinnamon and nutmeg, plus pumpkin, caramel. Flavors pretty much the same, very much like pumpkin pie with chocolate and caramel. Nice, a bit over the top. And not what I would do.

22oz bomber. Deep brown-black body, big beige head holds steady. This is definitely one of my favorite pumpkin beers, though it has more of a chocolate character truthfully. Delightfully mellow and fluffy on the palate, no harsh alcohol tones to speak of. Caramel chocolate covered pumpkin, with some nice spices to balance it out. Really sublime and excellent.

Bottle. Pours with a deep brown hued, not quite black body with a very large, deep tan head. Tight carbonation, great lace and retention. Aromas of pumpkin seeds, chocolate, fresh baked bread, nutmeg, cinnamon, lightly vegital, clove, leather, lactose and graham cracker. Flavors are nutty and leathery with cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, lactose/milk sugar, and chocolate. Malty, pine and a bit spicy. Pumpernickel. On the drier side of things for a big porter. Odd but pretty tasty. Medium carbonation, medium to slightly sweeter finish. Full bodied. Spiced fudge.

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy brown with a small beige head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is caramel malts and light roast. Thin mouthfeel with a light spice and cinnamon flavor with a light dry finish. A decent spice brew from Epic Brewing.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 5/25/12
Aroma: It has a nose of pumpkin spice, cinnamon, chocolate, caramel, and vanilla.
Appearance: This one pours a brownish color with a small head and some drippy lacing.
Flavor: It starts off with some sweetness from the chocolate, caramel, and vanilla, which works nicely alongside the pumpkin spice. Eventually the sweetness and spice is rounded out nicely by a roasted finish.
Palate: The body medium, it is fairly creamy, with a smooth, flowing mouthfeel, and a soft carbonation.
Overall Impression: I thought this one was quite good (and also felt fairly unique). There was quite a bit going on, but it all worked well together, and it didn't really feel at all muddled to me. The flavors all really just worked well together. This turned out to be quite a nice collaboration.

Deep dark brown coloured body with an almost squid ink black glow at the top and a nice one centimetre tall tan head on top. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, squash, alcohol and a nice spice note. Full-bodied; Strong roasty flavour with a deep squash and pumpkin flavour and a good spice flavour and some light nutmeg, anise and alcohol. Aftertaste shows alcohol, roasted malt, spice and a ton of pumpkin and squash. Overall, a nice and good mixture of the two styles - but not a ridiculous beer that should be searched high and low for. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 09-November-2011 for US$5.49 sampled at my in-law’s home in New Paltz, New York on 10-March-2012. Release #1 - 7.3% ABV.

Thought I rated this one a while back. Have had it a few times - just the Epic version of the brew. Poured a near pitch black color, dark tan head. Aroma is mostly roasted malts, with notes of chocolate, not a whole lot of pumpkin. Flavor is rich chocolate, roasted malts, a touch of pumpkin - but mostly is roasted malts. Alcohol notes are pretty mellow for 7.3abv.

Bottle from Sledutah - Secret Santa 2011. Release #5. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and pumpkin pie spices. Similar flavors with lots of the pumpkin pie spices. Medium body with moderate carbonation. A nice pumpkin porter. Thanks Craig.

Thanks to Armin for sharing - dark ruby pour - aroma of spices (cinnamon, nutmeg), vanilla, rum, light pumpkin flesh, bittersweet chocolate - full to medium body - nicely dry and roasty, with a fair amount of cocoa - light amount of cinnamon - a bit or earthy pumpkin on the tail end - a fair amount of black malt bitterness - lingering coffee and roast - a very nice brew.
