Beer type lager, unfiltered light beer. The combination of barley and special caramel malt from the Weyermann malthouse gives the beer an interesting taste and fullness. It is hopped with two types of aromatic and hot hops, with the resulting effect of balanced bitterness.

The Pilsener from this young Slovak craft brewery and brewpub. Medium thick, snow white, regular head, stable and leaving nice lacing, over an orangey blonde, clear beer, darker than expected from the style, with vivid fizz and some tiny dead yeast particles floating around here and there. Aroma very lightstruck at first (cat pee - the green bottle had already prepared me for this), fortunately fading away though not completely, and revealing a pleasant bready maltiness, biscuit, old cookies, cheese, some butterscotch, iron and grass. Clean and crisp taste with medium carbonation, malt sweet, a bit bready and grainy, metallic, with an early, grassy and peppery hop bitterness lasting quite long. Judging from something like this, I reckon the Slovak Republic has begun to catch up with the Czech Republic in terms of quality lagers. Admittedly I had better Czech Pilseners than this, but still this was better, maltier and less bland than expected. Many thanks to Sabine for bringing me a few bottles from the brewpub in Bratislava!

Bottle. A clear, golden beer with a white head. The aroma has sweaty malts. The aroma is grassy and grainy, with some piney notes. Light bread hints. The flavor has a nice bitterness, with grass and pale malts. Pine cones and a citrus peel hint. Dry on the palate, medium bodied. Pleasant carbonation level. A tad too metallic in the finish, else it’s a pretty nice beer. 140228
