IPA stands for India Pale Ale and ours is an American version of the classic style. IPA’s namesake lies in its colonial roots. British soldiers on their way to India drank a lot of beer, but found it would go stale on the long voyages. Meanwhile, brewers knew that by adding more hops, the beer would stay fresh. Voila! A new style was born and it is one we are proud to brew. Southern Tier IPA is a triple-hopped on its journey to your glass for a fully aromatic experience.

This is a really nice IPA - its disappearing from my glass at an alarming rate and makes me wish I had bought more than the 1 12 oz bottle! Fresh hop aroma is a bit citrusy, grassy, with a hint of candied fruit. Crisp citrus hop flavor, buoyed but a medium bready malt foundation, finishing semi-dry with a light-medium bitterness. An example of a good warm weather every-day kind of IPA. Golden with a nice creamy head.

Comes in a 6-pack at the LCBO. Pours a slightly hazy golden-orange colour with a nice foamy off-white head. This one stays a while and good lacing is created all around the glass. Oh yeah... the smell of a real IPA... lots of hop. Probably Cascade hop... as it has that pine smell (mildly). The mouthfeel is between watery and syrupy. Not as much bite in the taste, as I thought, coming from the aromas. Still, a real IPA, and a good one to make other people try, when they think Keith’s IPA is a real one.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly's, 1/19/10

Aroma: The nose is a mix of grapefruit, caramel, and flowers.
Appearance: This beer pours a barley hazy amber-orange color with a thin, foamy white head that leaves a good amount of lace on the glass.
Flavor: This is a pretty sweet IPA with grapefruit and caramel sweetness up-front, followed by a nice hop backing, pretty good balance.
Palate: A medium bodied IPA with a decent amount of carbonation.
Overall Impression: This is a pretty good beer. Maybe a little overly sweet for the style, but that is actually a pretty small criticism, as I liked it quit a bit. Another nice beer from Southern Tier, this one tastes pretty good.
