33 cL bottle. ($3.65 at Ledgers Liquors - go there - take money) Deep aroma of dark fruit and candy sugar. Sort of an overall musty tone. Might be wood. Dark brown, nearly opaque, color. Tan head that laced strangely. Medium to full bodied. Creamy carbonation. Starts sweet, dark fruits, candy, and a background of something like concord grape - not strong, but suggestive. Then it’s all sweetness, except that flavor is in the back of the mouth. The finish is dark fruits passing to caramel. Some heat. Minimal hop bitter. Finish turns sort of dry. Very smooth. Suggestions of wood at the very end. This is really interesting ale.

Bottle: Poured a deep brown color ale with a huge foamy head with some good retention and good lacing. Aroma of sweet malt and light candi sugar is interesting. Taste is dominated by some sweet Belgian malt with some candi sugar. A bit one-dimensional I thought with no spices or yeast overly present. Body was about full with some good carbonation and no alcohol was discernable.

Bottled. Dark amber colour, big beige head. Aroma is malts, sweet alcohol (quite weakly). Flavour is sweet from alcohol, along with some malts and yeast. Very wellbalanced and pleasantly done.

(Bottle 33 cl) Warm, orangey brown with a creamy, beige head leaving some lacework. Sweet aroma of roasted malt and caramel. Full - but not overly so - body, especially considering the alcohol. Marked accents of roasted malt and brown sugar, yet it manages to end fairly dry without much bitterness. The alcohol is very well hidden. 100307

Dark brown with little fizzy white head. Aroma of sweet malts (sugar) - caramel/nuts/dark fruits. Medium body and medium carbonation. Little warmth from alcohol. Finish has fruity and malty undertones. Lasting. Good! This isnt as powerfull as a lot of other "10 percenters" though. The alcohol well hidden!

[Bottled] Hazy mahogany colour. Coffee aroma. Sweet and very malty with near full body. Fruity and lightly raisiny with notes of lingonberries. The high alcohol contents is well hidden. A well integrated beer that perhaps lacks that extra touch to lift it to greatness.

Best before 6/10/09 bottle consumed on 6/20/06. Strong effervescence in the pour yielding a large amount of off-white head that slowly recedes to about one-finger of head, and light lacing. Sediment on the bottom, bottle conditioned. A medium-clear chestnut-mahogany brown beer with notes of burnished copper and auburn. Strong house character yeast in the nose gives me notes of plants. Plant roots, plant stalks, lettuce, cabbage, leafy vegetables, that sort of thing. I don’t think it’s DMS, but just some odd house character, perhaps from using a very old yeast. Dry, peppery, cracked grains and toasted malts border the astringent as light chocolate covered almonds do not add much substance to the aroma. Strong phenols and a touch of vanilla are at odds, as a light whiff of fusel alcohol throws the balance dry. Fruity and nutty, with soft vegetal character and easygoing malt sweetness that belies the dark color of the beer. Medium strength, with fusel alcohol apparent (only lightly so). The flavor is VERY reserved for a 10 abv beer, showing chewy caramel, well-attenuated and bits of dry raisins and soft walnuts that wash over the palate, soaked in light vanilla and pale sugars. Chocolate is an afterthought, much passed over by the vegetal return of the yeast on the finish and a strong dustiness from the unpasteurized, unfiltered nature. Fruity (estery) and overly attenuated, not quite to the point of being too dry. But the alcohol is mostly well-hidden, while the mouthfeel is lightly chewy, with light graham crackers and pinches of caramel. Soft carbonation takes a while to settle, and eventually is manageable. Still, I can’t get over that vegetal or old yeast character that is pervasive in all of their beers.

Bottled. Dark reddish-brown beer with a beige head and floaties. Nice lacings. The nose has dried fruits, sweet malt, some hoppy spices and a lightly roasted note. The flavor has dried fruits, sweet maltyness, spices and green apples. The alcohol is very well hidden in this one. The finish has some caramelized maltyness and dried fruits. A pleasant 10 percenter. (060513)
