The embodiment of true Virginia hospitality, Hardywood VIPA offers alluring tropical aromatics, a refreshingly delicate body and a bright, juicy finish. Heirloom Virginia barley rounds out the malt bill and creates a perfect sense of balance with a dose of citrusy Virginia hops. VIPA is our take on a Virginia India Pale Ale, or as we like to call it, Virgindia Pale Ale. Our interpretation of a Virginia IPA is crafted with locally sourced ingredients, from golden barley grown in the coastal plains to hops cultivated in the Appalachian piedmont. Pleasantly refreshing on the humid days of summer, but flavorful enough to satisfy on a cool winter evening, VIPA is just one more reason Virginia is for lovers.
Hardywood VIPA is the culmination of an extensive development process that included a search for the finest Virginia-sourced ingredients we could find. VIPA proudly features Virginia-grown hops from Piedmont Hops, LLC, Huguenot Hops and Misty Mill Hops at Rockmill Farm, as well as two-row barley grown by Bay's Best Feed in Heathsville, VA and malted at Copper Fox Distillery in Sperryville, VA.

From tap at BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Aroma is softly hopped with fruity notes, biscuity malt, citrussy with a touch of orange and grapefruit. Flavour is mildly sweet and moderate to medium bitter. Body is medium. Malty and mildly hopped, very classic.

Bottled. Orangeish golden colour with a creamy small white head. Aroma is honey, some tropical fruits, mild floral, grassy and lemony tones. Flavour is honey, sweet malts, fudge, some tropical fruits, spruce, grass and mild lemongrassy tones in the finish. Smooth and quite crisp this too.

Hardywood VIPA Virgindia Pale Ale 5.2% Bright copper color with a decent amount of foam and the aroma on first whiff was alright from this beer that’s almost a year old. Once you take a sip you don’t get any of the tropical/juicy notes the label promises, the hops have faded a lot leaving generic bitter pine. Served cold it’s a very middle of the road pale ale/IPA that’s obviously past its prime. Still drinkable though.

Shared 355 ml bottle. Clear golden colour, small white head. Weak aroma, some fruity hops. Thin bodied. Bitter and piney flavour. Disappointing.

Shared bottle at RB/HD on board Fridtjofen 30.11.19. Clear pale straw colour. Small white head and lacing. Fine aroma and taste of pilsner malt, succade and lemon zest. Good! Fairly dry.

Bottle from Marks & Spencer, Halifax. Golden with a light carbonation and a mild haziness. Hoppy with a mild bubble-gum sweetness followed by a late light bitterness.
