Bottle. Medium brown with a off white white. Aroma and taste are actually strongly banana but in a good way. Nice beer.

28.04.23 Aromat waty cukrowej mocno słodki i słodowy Jasno miedziany, biała beżowa piana klarowne. Smak lekko kwaskowaty i słodowy, bez chmielu. Nagazowanie duże, orzeźwiające, lekkie delikatne. Ogólnie chyba w stylu, raczej nie moja bajka, takie weizen z ciemną nutą zmieszany.

The Dunkelweizen from this 19th-century classic Bavarian brewery, far less famous than its pale brother - which I consider a great classic in its style, so I am stoked to try this one, from a German Weissbier glass of course... Huge and pillowy, creamy, pale beige, audibly crackling, plaster-lacing, very moussy, fine-bubbled head towering over a misty, coppery to mahogany brown robe with ruddy hue and multiple strings of fine sparkling rushing upwards. Aroma of brown bread crust, clove, dry wholegrain pasta, touch of Ersatz chocolate or even cocoa powder (but subtle), nutmeg, hard caramel, tea, light banana (lighter than usual for the style but certainly there), hints of unsugared chewing gum, damp towels, autumn leaves, medlar, dried thyme, baking soda. Fruity onset but relatively restrained in sweetness, hints of dried apple peel, halfripe banana and medlar, sourish undercurrent from the wheat accentuated by quite lively, yet fine-bubbled carbonation; smooth mouthfeel with that typical wheat soapiness and slickness, mingled with a pleasant brown-bready and hard-caramelly dark maltiness which, as predicted orthonasally, delivers a somewhat powdery chocolatey touch further on (cocoa powder - but not as sweet). Meanwhile spicy phenols, not just the classic clove but thyme and nutmeg as well, develop, pairing up with this brown-bready and lightly fruity main profile. Very mild toasty bitterishness lingers in the end, together with a brief touch of herbal hops (tea), enhancing drinkability and working well with the smoothness of the wheat. The cocoa-ish dark malts and spicy phenols, along with that herbal hop note, dominate the last impression after swallowing. Very solid Dunkelweizen in my book, ticking all the boxes of this grandfather of the German Weissbier family and just as satisfying as its blonde congener. Goes down smoothly, shows all the traditional characteristics one expects from the style - and adheres very strictly to them. Typical German no-nonsense beer, not quite the same top quality level as Schneider's original Dunkelweizen perhaps, but not far behind either. I love a traditional German beer like this from time to time.
