Otto, pictured in the silhouette on the front of the label, is certainly a fat pug. But, being the runt of the litter, Otto is also a stout pug…measuring in at a cool 1’1”. Brewed in Otto’s honor, Fat Pug Milk Stout is a full flavored (fat) stout that remains extremely drinkable. Otto the fat pug can be seen from time-to-time checking in on things at Mercenary, making sure his namesake beer is brewed right.

16oz can shared. Never a big fan of a milk stout - this one is sweet, thick - too much for a drink

16oz can pours a translucent dark brown, khaki edges, ring of beige head. Nose is malty, bread, carob, brown sugar, molasses, digestive cookie. Flavor is dark bread, off brand Oreo, very earthy, soil, some washed out coffee. Dry finish. Full bodied.

Pint can from Festival Northland, 3/2/21. Dark brown, thin tan head. Aroma of roast, lactose, dark fruits. Taste is roast, clay, earth, dark chocolate, hints of mint. Medium bodied, chewy. Nice.

Chocolate, oatmeal malt, and hay aroma. Black with small brown head. Mildly sweet chocolate, oatmeal malt, and mildly bitter hay flavor. Good body and balance. Solid.

16oz can brewed at Central State. In a world of wacky ass lactose beer, it is kind of nice and refreshing to see a classic Milk Stout. Roasty, rich, big chocolate, accentuated by the sweet vanilla sugary tones of the lactose. Even though I think contract brewing is kind of cheesy, Central State seems pretty competent. Really good.

Pour is a darker brown with a small tan head. Aorma is a decent oat and char malt. Flavor is again a decent charred malt with some roasted malt and a decent hit of bitterness. Pretty flavorful but light oatmeal stout.

A deep dark stout with a thin lacing brown head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with light grassy hops, light mineral notes, OK. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with powdery character, light vanilla and mineral notes. On tap at brewery.
