Sweet fruit in aroma, medium-bodied with a fair strength in its aftertaste.

[Rate 1, 17/9/2011, Cask at Tremenheere (JDW), Penzance. RB score 5/4/5/3/12 (2.9)] Pours a slightly cloudy amber. Smells sweet and malty. The taste made me think somewhat oddly of sweetened peat bog. Which was a bit disconcerting when I’d been hiking through peat bog earlier that day. Not entirely unpleasant, but definitely too sweet. [Rate 2, 28/5/2017, Cask at the Old Road Tavern, Chippenham. RB score 4/3/5/3/10 (2.5)] Reddish amber, thick white head. Sweet toffee and fruit, too sweet I feel. Hard going. [Rate 3, 30/8/21, Bottle, gift from Mum & Dad - cheers! RB score 7/4/8/4/15 (3.8)] Deep amber with a decent beige head. Rich and malty. Really malty. Chocolate, treacle & toffee too. Some stewed tea A mild crackly autumn leaf bitterness in the finish, but it's mainly sweet. Don't often get malty beers these days, so something like this is possibly more welcome than it used to be. Seemed much better in bottle than when I had it on cask - maybe the cask servings weren't in the best condition. Enjoyed it a lot this time! Overall rating is the average of all rates.

Cask. Hazy amber colour with small off-white head. Aroma is grass, wood, mild herbs and some bready malts. Flavour is much the same with some mild floral notes as well. Quite smooth.

Cask-conditioned at the Knights Templar (JDW), Bristol 09/06/09. Deep amber with a decent, off-white head. Sweet, caramel and red fruit aroma. Flavour was also sweet, with some marmalade, earthy hops and a short bitter finish. Ok.

Cask at the Devonshire Arms, South Normanton, Derbyshire. A rather plain and straightforward bitter. Chestnut hued with an off-white head; aroma of stewed fruit and hops; taste is clean hoppy bitterness then some sweet malt; with a sweet and slightly fruit finish. Rather unexciting.

Clear copper color, short head. Quite weak aroma of english hops, some caramel malts. Taste is bitter and malty, some fruity notes. Decent bitter.
