Deep dark brown, near black, with a creamy light tan head and a big chocolate and caramel aroma. Relatively light bodied, sweet chocolate malt with hints of ginger, some mellow coffee bitterness and a very dry finish.

440ml can. Pours black with a off white head. Aromas & tastes of chocolate, caramel, moist cake texture, milk & malt. Medium body. Sweet finish.

Can, gift from Mum - cheers! Dark brown with a rapidly vanishing beige head and a light to middling fizz. Big aroma of fudge and chocolate syrup made me fear this would be too sweet and fake. The taste though is much better than the smell though - chocolate cake, chocolate liquor, a light roastiness and a touch of cream. It's sweet but nowhere near as sweet as the whiff made me fear. Rather enjoyed it actually.

440ml can at The White Ball Inn, a Spoons in Tiverton on 29th July 2024. Tanned foaming head on a deep brown body, slight haze showing in the afternoon sunshine. Malty and sweet with a fudge/brownie like flavouring, interesting.

Can from the Low Cost Beer online shop. Pours dark brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of chocolate and nuts. Taste is more of the same. Sweet finish.

On cask at Head of Steam, Sheffield - deepest brown body, little bubbly top. Plenty of dark chocolate in the nose and taste, a little sugary to start, smoky coffee bean finish. Good this one.

Cask at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Very dark brown, a little bit translucent with a loose ring of white head. Massive hit of chocolate fudge on rhe aroma, with a little bit of coffee and ash. Tastes extremely sweet, loads more chocolate, with almost no bitterness toward the finish. Oily body, soft carbonation. Brilliant beer.

On tap at Ebenezers, Crewe. Pours a murky dark brown with minimal beige head and good lacing. The aroma is chocolate and fudge. In the mouth it is sweet and smooth with a creamy texture. Flavour chocolate biscuits, fudge and roasted malts. Later on vanilla comes through as well, along with hints of lactose and coffee. Chocolate lasts into the finish. This is quite nice – but lacks a little in the way of “stoutyness”.
