Adam is a recreation of a historic beerstyle. It was originally made in Dortmund, Germany, it was the very first beer I produced when I opened Hair of the Dog. Rich in flavor, Adam is best served as a dessert beer. It is great with cigars or chocolate or just a warm fire and good company.

Bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Aroma is dark malt with caramel, toffee, fudge, dried fruits, raisin, chocolate, and a touch of tobacco. Flavour is sweet with a mild roasty bitterness. Body is medium to full. Lovely malt-heavy brew, rich and sweet with plenty of layers. Quite tasty.

Nothing but a small white rim over virtually black beer. Sweet, dark malts, but with a strange, fine curry spice-like aroma. Liquorice, raisins. Flavour: elderberry syrup with some burnt notes, dark malts, raisins or prunes. Again a lot spice-like, if less specific. Short-lived bitterness reappears with every sip. Quite slick, full bodied, alcohol and quite low carbonation. Strange beer - making me unsure as of what to think of it.

Bottle. Dark brown pour. Aroma of raisin, dates, figs, caramelised malt, smoke, caramel fudge, sweet cherry and herbs. Taste has bitter caramel fudge, figs, dates, raisin, smoke, caramelised malt, herbal bitter hop, pine, booze and a little honey. Strange, but effective mix of flavors, just like in the Hair of the Dog original. This version lacks the depth of HotD, but it's still a very nice beer.

0.33 l bottle from 'Het Biermoment', best before November 2021, cellared for almost one-and-a-half years. Clear, very dark ruby to black with a few beige bubbles on top of it. Sweetish, malty, slightly smoky aroma of caramel, chocolate, coffee and a touch of smoked ham. Fairly sweet, malty, moderately bitter, gently bitter taste of caramel, dark chocolate, licorice, coffee, some tar, a touch of smoked ham and traces of dark fruits, followed by a medium long, gently roasty-bitter, slightly boozy finish. Medium body, watery to oily mouthfeel, flat. Pleasant beer but nowhere near the original or the version brewed at 'De Molen'.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Wijn&Verwonderen, Culemborg. Clear dark brown to black with a thin beige head. Molasses aroma with some gentle hops. A little chocolate and dark fruits as well. Sweet taste with a smooth long lasting finish. Strange but very tasty beer, tastes to me like a cross between a barley wine, a stout and a Belgian strong dark ale. Very well done.

Smooth and fruity beginning. Spicy parts, moderate sweetish with a nice fruity finish. Not too sticky, the 11% are not tasteable, fruity and slightly sweetish grainy ending. Fantastic!
