Four big-hitting hops come together to create a sessionable, hop-forward Pale Ale with the intensity of a new world IPA. Amarillo, Chinook and Simcoe from the USA work in harmony with New Zealand’s Nelson Sauvin to produce a punchbowl aroma of lemon, tangerine and gooseberry, followed by a balanced grapefruit bitterness.

On cask at Cloisters on 15th June. Appearance - golden amber with a nice tight head. Nose - floral and lemony. Taste - light stalk thing going on, but mostly we’re in lemon and orange territory here. Some biscuit at the back but mostly the citrus fruit. Palate - light bodied. Creamy middle section and balanced bitter finish. Overall - good.

Keg tap at the Rake, Borough. Golden, clear with a spotty white head. Gooseberry, apple and line in the simple but enticing smell. The taste doesn’t deliver as well: it’s bittersweet, fruity and slightly gummy. Medium to long bitter finish with gooseberry fool, elderflower cordial and Gummi bears in the aftertaste. I want to like it more than I do, but it’s not all that exciting at the end of the day.

Can. Mr. Pickles, Sheffield. Pale gold. Lightly hazy. Thin, firm, lasting, white head. Nose has fusty malts. Caramel. Some apple skin. Some peach. Taste is light sweet, with some minerals bitterness. Light body. Flabby sweet finish.

Cask at the Euston Tap, West Lodge, 11/05/17. Lightly hazed golden blonde with a decent off white cap. Nose is melon, orange peel, bread dough, pale malts, light grass. Taste comprises tangerine, soft bread, flicker of pine needle, melon, lemon rind, straw. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying close spiked with juicy hop bitterness. Solid hoppy session gear.

Cask at CBC Brixton - London. Pours clear yellow-gold with a frothy, pure white head. The aroma holds crackery pale malts, some grains, straw. Light sweet flavour with prominent pale grain character, light grassy bitterness, along with husky grains, lemon peel. Light bodied with fine carbonation; decent condition. Finishes with more modest grassy hops, hay, pale grains and lemon peel. So so.

Keg @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Golden with a very thin head. Has a hop-malt balance, but perhaps slightly more of the former.

Can. Bright clear gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, mildly dry and with decent fine carbonation. Light sweetish malts, pear and bubblegum esters. Pine and modest citrus. Floral bitter finish. Too estery to be that good.
