REPUBLIKA is our British Craft lager that just can’t stop winning awards – it’s picked up 11 to date. Using authentic Saaz hops, Czech yeast along with Pilsner malt, we ferment for two weeks before ‘lagering’ for a further 6 weeks. The result of this long wait is a refreshing, full flavoured pilsner lager with a balanced, rounded taste.

On tap at the Bear (JDW), Maidenhead. Pale straw with a dense white head; some strawberries on the aroma; sweet, with a creamy grainy body and a light strawberry taste; then a fruity bitterness. A pleasant alternative to a mainstream lager.

Keg at the Royal Standard of England, nr Beaconsfield. Gold with a moderate white head and a rather prickly mouthfeel that (before it eventually diminishes) rather obscures the otherwise pleasantly soft mouthfeel. The flavour is grassy with floral hints and sweet malts behind. It’s all quite gentle and simple but pretty pleasant overall for a lager.

Keg at the Lazy Fox, Fulham. Clear yellow, extra frothy due to my crappy pour at the pub’s self-service beer wall. Lemon, grain, bit of peach and pine in the bouquet. Sweet taste, slight bitter in the finish. Hint of tropical fruit bitter aftertaste. Yummy.
