A great tasting classic and crisp German-style pilsner made by one of the Open Gate brewers. An added depth of flavour, synonymous to Guinness, with a full-bodied and rounded mouthfeel followed by mild bitterness and hints of citrus.

650 from a little shop in London County Hall area. Pours gold with a white head. Aroma is bready with some grass. I think. Approaching medium body. Flavor is grass/citrus/fruit over some not too obnoxious breadiness. Fairly dry. More than mildly bitter. Ya never know what to expect in “pilsners”, but I’ll drink this one.

Bottle from a local supermarket. Pale golden colour with a very thin white head. Atoma is light floral and malty. Sweetish taste. Light crisp body.

Bottle from Nisa Supermarket, Hebden Bridge. Marked down but nowhere near out of date, must have come loose from a multi-pack. Blonde pilsner with a somewhat steamed texture, with a very mild activity evident in the palate. Nothing too stated about its styling with only a light sweetness.

650ml bottle from my local Londis. A pale amber pour with a fast fading white head; little in the way of aroma; corn syrup taste; with a slight grassy bitterness. Pilsner in name only.

330ml bottle at home. Pours a crystal yellow, rocky white head. Aroma of hay and digestive biscuits. Thin watery mouthfeel, taste of honey, hay. Typical pilsner, refreshing after mowing the lawn.

330ml bottle, as Open Gate Brewery Pilsner (four pack from my local Morrison's Supermarket. Poured into a rarely used old 'Watzdorfer Brauerei' badged vase shaped flute at home on 11th May 2018. Very pale golden body, clean and bright, white crown on top. Dry and slightly hoppy with no aroma worthy of the name. Bland and pretty boring to be honest, will have to use the other three in the pack for unwanted guests at my next BBQ.
