From a 500ml bottle on 2/2/2012. Pours a clear bright golden with a small head which dissipates quite quickly. Has a very pleasant floral, fruity hop aroma, with a touch of caramel malt. Flavour wise, there is some muted caramel sweetness up front, along with some orange, mango and a bit of pineapple. The bitterness is reasonably assertive, with grapefruit and pine prevalent in quite a dry finish. Perhaps just a little muted on the malt side, this is otherwise an impressive US style IPA from Holgate.

This is a well-balanced iPA (yes, that’s a small ’i’), with notes of watermelon and passionfruit complementing the grapefruit aroma, and some caramel with just a hint of wet dirt. The palate has a good punch of mild grapefruit spilling right over the sides of the tongue and down the back of the throat. There’s a hint of malt biscuit to give it some good body. A pleasant beer and certainly a real winner for those who like their IPAs on the lighter side.

Pours amber with a large, lasting head.Nose shows lots of juicy fruit, with pineapple, nectarine and peach confectionery notes. The flavours instead focus on grapefruit along with a little clean malt.Finishes quite dry with a piny, hoppy bitterness.Carbonation is perhaps a little excessive.

Growler. Amber with an inch of white head. Pine, nectarines, caramel, some citrus. Full, creamy mouthfeel - doesn’t feel underweight for an IPA at all. Modest caramel sweetness, prominent but not dominant bitterness with pine and a little kumquat. All very tenor-register hops - a little more zesty citrus would have made it more vibrant. Pretty good.

Very robust, hoppy IPA. Almost pungent on the nose. Luscious reddish brown in colour. Great in the mouth and in the belly. I’ll be back for some more. Need to get this in bottles soon.
