A rich dark ale, with an underlying maltiness, and a subtle fruit aroma, ideal for keeping the chill of Winter at bay. The roasted barley and pale chocolate malt give a deep red hue, the hop combination of Progress, Styrian Goldings and Cascade create bitterness with a soft spicy yet fruity edge.

Bottle from Booths, Media City. Darker clear copper-red with a thin head. There’s grain, malt and a hint of chocolate in its nose. It’s not as stated in its taste but there’s a good sweetness running throughout its character.

500ml bottle: BBE Aug 15, poured at home into a vase shaped ’Old Speckled Hen’ badged glass on 7th Jan 15. Dark ruby body with an off-white, thin blanket of foam. Malty nose with a rich promise of candid and hedgerow fruitiness; which appeared in the flavours, once you sip the brew. Mild spice touch to the beer: one of the better Winter/Christmas beers I have had the misfortune/chance to try over this 2014/2015 period.

500ml bottle. Clear, deepest ruby red colour with small to average, thick, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Malty, fruity aroma, hints of cherries and red berries, cautious hints of milk chocolate, a cherry-peppermint mixture like the correspondent ’Fisherman’s Friend’-sort (of course with considerably lower intensity), decently spicy background with a touch of succory. Taste is spicy, malty, slighty roasty, fruity hoppy hints of red berries are afflicted with limited assertiveness. Not unbalanced, but neither strictly ’horizontal’ on that scale.

Bottle from Ales By Mail [240214]
Dark ruby, clear, bubbly white head
Aroma of fruity caramel malts, fruit cake, slight spicy hops, dark fruits
Taste of caramel, dark fruits, dab of spicy hops, fruit cake, touch of raisins, some bitter English hop, toasted malts, malty fruits, quite complex
Palate - soft carb, medium body, oily, smooth. Finish a little dry, fruity caramel malts and bitter English hops in the linger
Overall - Sort of a cross between an ESB and an Old Ale. Not bad at all.

Bottle courtesy of Jude & Baz (cheers) consumed Friday 31st January 2014. Pours almost black, a bit smokey, a little tiny sourness most noticeable on the nose. Its ok but nothing exciting, a little tart fruitiness. Ok. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov12 3.0

Bottle at a ChrisO Tasting - London. Pours clear auburn with a light, bubbly head. Modest caramel and pine aroma. Pretty bland flavor, light sweetness, some leaves, light toast, faint caramel. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Fairly dry to finish with more leafy bitterness and light toast. Nothing special, really.

Clear deep red - amber beer. Tidy cream coloured head. Crispy dry palate. Dry malt with a little dark toffee. Typical astringent English bitter hop, next to no hop fruit. Dry finish with a trace of bubblegum ester. Too dry and harsh.2.4

Clear deep red beer, tidy cream coloured head. Palate is airy and a little soft. Modest fine carbonation. The malt is light and smooth and carries mild dark chocolate and tiny bit of roast bitterness. Light thin malt cream. Tangy fruits, whisper of cherry. Light coffee. Light finish with a mild bitter linger. Not bad at all and a big improvement on the previous time I had it.
