For years, rumors have circled that deep in the woods on Mount St. Helens lives the fabled Batsquatch. While there are many tales of Batsquatch, they are all a bit hazy on the details, which makes the truth such a juicy mystery. So what better way to honor the elusive legend than with a hazy IPA? Perfect for camping and potentially making a new friend. This juicy, cloudy IPA features intense tropical flavors and aromas.

Canned on 6 January 22. Both the aromas and flavors are characterized by old citrus hops. Might have been good when it was fresh, but it's not. Just drinkable.

Strong grapefruit hop aroma. Taste is full hoppy flavor with only mild bitterness. Nice amount of malt sweetness to balance. Mild citrus bitter hop aftertaste.

12 oz can picked up as part of a boneyard six pack at the local grocery store. As most are in this series for me, it's a solid brew for under two bucks. Lots of tropical hop notes. Juicy pineapple nose. Flavor has some dusty grains with a juicy profile that overpowers a touch. Has a sweet side. Smooth and very flavorful overall. Tasty.

Can at home shared with Inoven. Punica appearance, white to off-white head. Aroma is malts, oranges, orangepeel lightly, yeasty a bit. Flavor is similar, with a soft sweet note. Hmm okay-ish, not great.

Hazy IPA by good old Rogue, the familiar name in Oregon that long predates the 'haze craze' (established in 1988); apparently the 'founding fathers' of the American - and, by extension, global - craft beer movement try to dip a toe in later developments every now and then, which is refreshing to see. Can from the Delhaize supermarket of Zwijnaarde, an unlikely place for this kind of beers perhaps, but the guy responsible for the beer selection there apparently enjoys 'carte blanche' in his selection of specialty beers, to the extent that I intend to make an entry on this site for his specific Delhaize alone... Canned five months ago. Pale greyish off-white, very large- and uneven-bubbled but thick and cobweb-lacing, slowly opening head on a cloudy apricot blonde beer with vague ochre tinge. Very citric aroma of pink grapefruit, kumquat, pink peppercorns, lemon zest, tangerine pith, green mango, canned pineapple slices, wet sand, dried tarragon, soggy cheese crackers, hints of bergamot, matcha and unripe apricot. Juicy onset, green mango, unripe melon and some apricot, restrained in sweetness though (certainly for this style) with medium carb and soft, fluffy but still somewhat oily mouthfeel; smooth cereally and bit soggy cookie-like maltiness, grainy edges, immediately drenched in expressive and vibrant hoppiness, very zesty, calling for associations of pink grapefruit flesh, mandarin peel, bergamot and tangerine, mingled with vague oniony and marihuana-like elements here and there, establishing not only a wealth of retronasal citrusiness but also quite some peppery and grapefruity end bitterness, more so than is typical for a NEIPA. Tropical enough for what it wants to be, but it cannot let loose of the grapefruity, peppery, stern bitterness that typified the first 'postmodern' IPAs in the United States - so, as with similar attempts at NEIPA by other old school Americans such as Sierra Nevada or Stone, this one comes across as a West Coast IPA imposing as a NEIPA. A wolf in sheep's clothing, almost, and in that sense a pleasant surprise. I recommend - I admit that many breweries master the sweet and juicy NEIPA very well, but my heart still lies with the uncompromisingly bitter West Coast IPAs and this one cannot hide its true identity, even if it completely looks like a NEIPA. Quite a great IPA in general even if it does not entirely deliver the NEIPA expectations, and what a phenomenal discovery that this kind of beers are sold reasonably fresh in a supermarket about two kilometers from where I live...
