A well hopped pale ale using Pilgrim, Fuggles and East Kent Goldings for a gentle bitterness and a dry hoppy finish. Deceptively drinkable for it’s strength.

Cask handpull from the Queen Edith, Cambridge. Mid-gold, not quite clear. Reasonable amount of foamy white head and lacing. Malt and citrus dominate the aroma but further sneaky sniffing will reveal some tropical fruit. Exceedingly sweet taste - almost like pear drops - but none the worse for it. It finishes more bitter, with less balance, and there’s a touch of diacetyl right at the end. Shame, because it is pretty good all around.

Cask @ Castle Hotel, Manchester. Clear golden with a small creamy head. Mildly malty sessionable, with a more pronounced nose in this respect. Has a gentle fruitiness underpinning the ale.

Cask @The Pullman Bar, Helsinki. Poured slightly hazy, orange color with a typical bubbly head. Aroma is rubbery/mushrooms. Very odd. Flavor quite similar, slight sweetness. Finish is kinda harsh. Not very pleasant one.

Bright amber. Toasty and caramel aroma. Sweetish, nice caramel taste. A little bit of toastiness late. Not very summery, but ok bitter.

(Cask at Leskinen, Oulu) Poured golden and almost clear with medium sized, long lasting, dense and white head. Aroma was quite fruity and hoppy, too. Palate was medium bodied with low carbonation. Tasted of hops, malts, grass, grain and bitterness. Quite bitter aftertaste.

Half cask ale at Cask & Barrel in Edinburgh where it was served at the very right drinking temperature. Light amber body. Low, white head. Grass-hoppy aroma. Light caramel malts in flavour mixed with hints of dried fruits. A brief touch of bitterness in the ending. Dry in the mouth. Medium to thin palate (23.10.2008).

[on draught at the 3B’s, Reading] Poured a golden colour with a moderate, very white head which slowly reduced - appearance of a pilsener (my friends actually said "how come you’ve bought a lager then?"). The carbonation is pleasantly soft. A sweet malty aroma and foretaste were quickly overtaken by a soaring bitterness with oaky overtones, reminding me more of an IPA than a bitter. I’m not usually a fan of very bitter ales, but this one worked really well for me - a very refreshing summer ale; great work guys.
