Old Thumper has a distinctive, slightly peppery aroma. The luscious balance of grain and hops leads to a bittersweet finish and results in a round and surprisingly delicate strong ale.

Old Thumper was created by veteran British brewer, Peter Austin, founder of Ringwood Brewery in Hampshire, England and mentor to our very own Alan Pugsley. This non-traditional English bitter is brewed in the US exclusively by Shipyard.

Pours a clear golden with a nice white head, lots of carbonation apparent. Aroma of bitter herbs, malt. Taste is excellent, notes of oak, lemongrass and herbal additives. Palate is much of the same, soft mouthfeel with definite grassy notes on the back of the tongue.

Bottle pour into shaker pint glass from Downtown Discount Beverage. Aroma is caramel and dark fruit with noble hops. Appearance is clear, beautiful copper amber with finger width off-white fluffy head with attractive sudsy lacing. Taste is strong caramel with fruit, noble hops light bitter. Palate is medium bodied with thin but creamy texture, lively carbonation and pleasant sweet finish. Overall, much better than I was expecting based on ratings. Not much nuance here but good at what it does with exceptional appearance.

Pours an amber from a bottle, caramel and vanilla notes in the nose, a little skunkiness in the mouth. Okay beer.
