A great Fürth beer legend is brought back to life with Grüner, whose origins reach back to the year 1709. Our Grüner Vollbier hell is brewed wholly in the spirit of the good old days. It’s a part of real Fürth brewing tradition, which, luckily, you can enjoy again today.

Pours gold from the bottle. The foamy white head soon fades. Aroma is grassy. Faint notes reminiscent of vinegar and bile develop midway into the session. Taste is malty sweet with a light, stale cardboard bitterness that becomes more pronounced at the end. The finish leaves a gentle, fruity note. Body is medium with a mild carbonation. Overall disappointing.

25cl bottle, as Gruner Grunerla. From my Secret Santa 2017. Poured clear golden color with a thin white head. Bit cardboard, sweet malty, grainy, wort notes. Sweet finish. Feels bulky.

Grünerla. Clear pale golden body, white head. Light, dry slightly sweetish aroma, some egg, bitterish herbal touches. Light and watery taste, bit eggy and dry, very very light bitterness, slightly soapy. Dry yet soft, slightly watery yet nice. Not a bad generic helles really.

Aus der Flasche im Marientorzwinger, Nürnberg. - Strohgelb, klar.

Bottle 25 cl. Comes as "Grünerla". Pours a pale, clear yellow with a small, white head. Sweet, malty nose - somewhat oxidized though. Medium body, rather sweet malt base, a light metallic touch. Hardly any bitterness at all. 060417

0.25 l bottle from local ’Trink & Spare’ as ’Grünerla’, best before April 2017. Clear, golden yellow with a thin, frothy, almost stable, white head. Sweetish, slightly grassy-spicy aroma of straw, some honey and a touch of citrus. Slightly sweetish, a bit grassy-spicy taste of straw, grains and slightest hints of citrus, followed by a short, medium bitter, moderately grassy-spicy and a bit dry finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Okay, might not be the freshest bottle though.
