One of our stalwarts and one of our launching line up back in December 2016. This beer won the accoldade of CAMRA’s Champion Beer of Cheshire in Cask and it is now time for the Tinnies to shine.

A subtly smoked porter using Beech Smoked Malt for a smooth, rich, smokiness and freshly ground Black Pepper for a touch of fire to lift the end.

This is a beer that will change and develop as it warms in the glass – one to savour.

Cask at Crewe Dog, Crewe – at 3.7%. Well the name’s a misnomer for a start ! It certainly isn’t “extra pale” but pours a golden amber with a small off-white head. Citrus is there in the aroma, plus traces of marmalade and malts. Pretty much the same in the mouth, where there is tangerine to the fore and a caramel base. Finish is quite fruity. Drinkable, but not memorable.

Cask atthe Southampton Arms London on 10th August 2021. Deep sepia with tan foam and almost no lacing. Coffee aroma with touch of smoke. Smoky and intensely roasty in-mouth south savoury notes. Finish reflects all liquid pass flavours. Medium bodied with a smooth yet engaging mouthfeel.

17/01/2020. Cask at the 11th Elysian Winter Beer Festival. Pours almost black with a small beige head. Aroma of smoke, chocolate, malt and dark fruit. Moderate sweetness and bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Wasn't especially keen on this one.

Third, gravicask, at the 22nd Oxford Beer & Cider Festival. Shared with Finn. Near black in the glass, a deep ruby tint to it. Beige head, fair lacing. Slightly smoked aroma, mid-sweet. Smoked chocolate malts, dry. Roasted malt-driven ending, distant notes of dried fruits. Pretty nice. (25.10.2019).

Cask @ Salopian, the pub. Pours dark cola brown, small off-white ring. Good woody smoky roast on the nose. Light palate, prominent roasted malt, smoked ham, woody smoke to taste, distant bitter dark chocolate. Smokiness lingers nicely. Decent.
