We brewed One Flew Over in celebration of our first anniversary. Now we're canning it for the first time in Celebration of our 5th. This beer was brewed with coconut, Madagascar vanilla bean, lime zest, and lactose. Think coconut birthday cake in a glass.

Canned 4/28/21, drunk 5/25/21. Moderately hazy, drab, lemon-lime-golden with a small white head that sits at cover. Smells like vanilla ice cream....with a touch of coconut. I think I get more lime zest than I do hops, as well, but this is also almost a month old, so maybe understandable. Still, it's homogenized well, with no weird lactose notes nor any one element dominating. That said, I'm not really dying to take a big whiff of vanilla-coconut ice cream when smelling a beer. Fares a bit better in the mouth, with a soft, comforting texture, lots of sweet vanilla and honey-like malt notes and a finish full of lime acidity and coconut. It's what you've signed up for, buying this beer, so no complaints and they've done it pretty well. Enough bitterness from the lime to keep it mostly balanced though some hop bitterness would be less harsh and more appreciated. Good enough though, doesn't bludgeon you to death with sweetness, booze or adjunct.
Ok about 15 minutes later this is getting borderline sickening with the lactose and lime acidity overwhelming. I get that lactose IPAs are not meant to be held for a month but I also think this must have been unbearable when super fresh, so I don't know what to think.

Had to bring this home to truly put it to its test in a becher pint glass, only true way to review an APA.
The appearance was a murky toasty pale orange color with a sustaining finger’s worth of white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace. Slight lace.
The aroma had some vanilla/cake-like/biscuits over top of some grassy and citrusy hops which weren’t that bitter. Light bubblegum. Everything seemed to come off sweet.
The flavor leaned towards the sweetness of the malts and hops complimenting themselves fairly nice. Nice aftertaste of the malts and hops. Some pop from the hops in the finish.
The feel was about medium bodied with a full scale sessionable quality about it. Pretty smooth with the hops and the malts. ABV felt fine. Carbonation felt good.
Overall, pretty nicely done APA that I would have again. I don’t like reviewing APA’s in tulips, and actually, they’re not supposed to be anyways.
