The second of the Hartleys ales, Cumbria Way joined XB in 2001. Our former Head Brewer, Chris Helin invited tenants from our finest Cumbrian houses to select a new beer from a range of trial ales. The response was overwhelming Cumbria Way!
Cumbria Way takes its name from the 112km footpath which passes through the heart of the Lake District National Park and links the two historic Cumbrian towns of Ulverston and Carlise.
Hartleys Cumbria Way is a full bodied bitter beer with superb mouth feel of rich malt and hops complemented by complex aromas of spicy hop, malt and tart fruit. It has a long dry finish with citrus fruit notes

Half pint from the cask at Breeze Hill, Benllech, Anglesey. Pours clear amber with a white head. Aromas & tastes of light fruits, caramel & biscuit malt. Light to medium body. Light bitter finish. Enjoyable

Cask@The Elephant's Head, Camden. Deep golden colour with a mediumsized white foamy head. Aroma is hayish, some vegetables, mild nutty tones with a bit of earth. Flavour is sulphur, some eggy and vegetably notes with mild grains and floral tones. Bad condition.

Creamy white head on an amber coloured body. Sweet, malt & fruity aroma. Medium bodied, smooth & creamy. Malt, caramel, berries & sweet fruity tastes with a bitter finish. Standard.

Cask at the Queens Head, Hawkshead. Pours dark gold with a medium head. Aroma is eggy straw. Taste has straw throughout with eggy sulphur on the finish.

From tap at Castle Hotel, Manchester, 30.11.17. Clear golden. Dense and persistent white head and lacing. Arom af moderare American hops, pale malt and succade. Slightly sour. Dry. Not great. More a golden ale than a bitter.
