Mega hoppy beer with the citrus and pine of the best of yank pales. Easy drinking but not low on flavour. Balance is our mission here.

Can from Sainsbury’s. Hazy deep golden body with an off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of lemon, straw and caramel. Flavour of pear and steel with a faint gluey note. Thin to medium body with a slick mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Light and simple with a sweet edge.

On tap at Ebenezers, Nantwich (at 4.8%). Pours golden amber with a small off-white head and good lacing. The aroma has bread crusts and yeast with some hoppy traces. In the mouth it is quite bitter with a creamy texture. Flavour is mixed hops, spice and pine with some underlying malts and hints of marmalade and tropical fruit later on leading to a fruity and somewhat dry finish. This is decent – plenty of bite to it.

There's an older guy currently walking around York City centre in an old style yellow huge fireman's helmet, and I don't mean just today, I've seen him on more than one visit. No rescue needed here, solid pale ale, even with the gluten-free elements impacting. Good fruity notes towards the stone and exotic varieties.

Keg at Heidrun, HWY, 26/04/24. Clear golden amber with a decent lasting egg shell white cap. Nose is orange zest, grass, tangerine, lemon nip, airy malts. Taste comprises citric tinged straw, orange zest, grass, melon, light malt base. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with light juicy come grassy hop bitterness. Middle of the road entry level kind of pale.

Draught at Skaal Sønderborg. Mild fruity and yeasty aroma with notes of fresh bread. Hazy dark golden colour. Small white head. Good flavour of fresh bread, fresh yeast, hint of fruit. Mild bitterness. Teaish aftertaste, coriander?
