33cl bottle from Midori, Nagano. Pours close to black with a modest pale beige head. Mild, but pleasant aroma of roasted malt with some fruity notes, chocolate and hints of wood. Moderate to medium sweet with a balanced bitterness. Medium body with a fairly average carbonation. Decent, easy-to-drink porter.

Poured into a teku showing a slightly translucent center with coffee brown translucent rims and barely any foam around the edges. The nose shows somewhat sweet Belgian yeast-like notes with a balanced heft of roasted malts. The palate is light bodied and moderately carbonated. First impressions shows a strong roasted malted bitterness with a light Belgian yeastiness in the background. The flavors slowly change to an adzuki bean-like sweetness that is slight and not overboard. Finish returns back to the roasted malts and a bitterness of the same. Not terribly fun.

Harvest Brew bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a dark brown with a small tan head that lingers throughout. Milk chocolate bomb on the nose with some light grassy hop character and light roast. Taste is even more chocolate, slightly sweet with good carbonation and medium body. Light toasted cacao finish with milk chocolate noticeable at each stage. Hops were really only noticeable on the nose. I liked it a lot more this time. Old Rating: 330ml bottle from Deguchiya in Naka-Meguro. Poured into an English tulip half-pint. Pours dark brown/black with a modest tan head. Roasted malt, overly roasted coffee aroma. Tastes burned like a Starbucks roast with undertones of soy sauce and leather. Pretty standard and uninspiring Porter to be honest. Not as good as some of their other beers. --- Beer merged from original tick of Shiga Kogen Porter on 30 Mar 2015 at 15:29 - Score: 6

Bottle from Yamaoka. Pitch black, low tan head. somewhat roasted dry malt aroma. Dark chocolate, coffee, milk, cereals. Burnt malt flavor, dry, a bit of coffee, some sourness, dry. A bit like soy sauce. Some hops… a bit of dark fruits, though not very sweet at all. Long-lasting burnt finish. Seems to have decent hops as well. Slight citrus tinge. Relatively light and refreshing for a porter. Ok, but not really exciting.

Bottled. Dark brown, small beige head. Light coffeea roma. Dryish with light to medium body. Some licorice and coffee - though it feels more like the watery American kind of coffee. A bit light overall, but strict and correct.

Light brown head with a very very dark brown body. Almost no light come from this porter. The nose has an interesting combination of citrusy hops, dark chocolate and coffee. Solid coffee, milk chocolate mouth, though a bit thin. Lasting roasted malty finishing that was a tad bitter and a tad dry. A little too carbonated for me.
