Sunday 17th Oct 2010, bright and sunny, managed to mow the lawns for the last time before winter: this beer is my reward. Brown 500ml bottle, best before the end of Nov 2010. Poured into an ’Abbot Ale’ tankard. Light amber body with a good foaming head of off white bubbles sat on top. I love Fuggles, but I couldn’t find any in the nose, some hints of citrus fruits with a sweeter undertone of toffee/caramel and molasses. The taste was fairly sweet, the toffee, caramel and molasses hitting the palate first. The Fuggles hops appear later as the mouth beings to dry, giving it a bitter finish. Easy to drink and as I prefer sweeter beers than overly hopped brews this really hit the nail for me.

Cask. Pours an almost clear amber with a small off-white head. Avery neutral, perhaps a discreet whiff of caramel. Medium body, low carbonation and a very smooth mouthfeel. Caramel and overripe fruit with a subdued bitterness. Very easy to drink. 070412

Cask at the Crosse Keys. Pours clear, rich gold with a tight, white-cream cap. Aroma holds some ripish fruits and bready malts. Alright flavor, light to medium sweet, some white sugar, citric bitters, mild dough. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Somewhat sticky finish, sweet malts, light leaves and sticks, some fruity sugars. Decent.

Rodman’s, DC 500ml ($3.29): Pours a light brown with an off-white head that leaves a lacing that stays thick for about an hour. Aroma is not particularly strong, but there are sweet malts and a wee bit of fruitiness in there. The taste is slightly sweet, with the British malts taste prevalent throughout. A little bit spicy it is. The hop bitterness is very faint, but is noticeable in every sip. Not a particularly complex beer, but seems to be drinkable enough.

Golden. Pedio nose with light toastiness. Toasty, with a fairly biscuity malt sweetness. Decent stuff.
