A full bodied, warming ale of 4.7% ABV. Brewed with well-roasted malts and generous amounts of English hops, for a satisfying finish. The use of wheat malt as well as finest Pale Maris Otter malt results in a rich, full malty flavour. A blend of Fuggles and Goldings hops give good depth to the bitter finish of the beer.

Cask at JDW Arthur Robertson; clear mahogany pour, thin off white head, burnt caramel aroma, roast malt taste with hints of caramel, white pepper, slightly bitter, adequate.

Cask at The Tivoli, JDW, Cambridge. Pours clear, rich gold with a firm, yellow-white cream head. Bready malt nose, light toast. Light to medium sweet flavor, some oddly intense alcohol notes, brown bread, faint toffee, dry berries. Light to medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Moderate sweet finish, toasty bread, faint earth and leaves, semi-ripe fruits, berries, light dry wood. Nothing too wrong with this one.

Cask at a Wetherspoons in Manchester. A nut-brown beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and nuts. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and nuts as well as light notes of metal. Nice.

[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading.] Chestnut with a loose cream head; caramel malt aroma; malty flavour with some roast nuts and well balanced bitterness, and a long hoppy finish.

Cask at The Market Porter London Bridge 5 Feb 08. Dark amber colored. A creamy head. Pleasant aroma with hints of fruit. A bit weak in flavor. Dry finish. Quite thin. No ice observed.

Cask handpull at Market Porter, London. Ruby with lasitng beige head. Iโm guessing that it is supposed to be an old ale but can see itโs down as an ESB. A malty ashy aroma, but then too much caramel in the mouth and no sourness. But a tingly dry hop. As a darkish ale, yep, not bad, bit too sweet up front, but the hop stings the teeth on the finish. Interesting. A malt toffee hoppy beer.

Cask@Loughborough Beer Festival 2007. Dark brown beer with a light head. The aroma is weakly dry and the flavour is dry and very bitter with a slight roasted element. Overall an average beer.

Cask at the Gladiator Club, Iffley Road 19-02-07. Poured a dark brown with only the merest of heads, sweet malts dominated the aroma, taste was rich maltiness again, but some lovely dark fruitiness to balance it, I thought this was an extremely good beer and had three more pints!
