Mini-session of Irish and other beers on 11th Nov 2016: this 500ml bottle was split between three of us. Poured a deep, dark brown with a ruby hue, weak thin white head. malts rule the nose and flavours with both chocolate and liquorice notes to the fore. Nice roasted malty flavours: a lot better than I expected to be honest.

Appearance: Medium brown, hint of red? Seems clear. Some light tan head, not much.
Aroma: Malt, sweetness, roasted.
Taste: Malt, lightly roasted, sweet, smooth. Slight dryness. A bit harsh aftertaste.

Bottle. Aldi. Clear, dark, reddy brown. Thin, dense, lasting, off white head. Nose has some vine fruit. Metal filings. Brown sugar syrup. Taste is acrid bitter, set against a syrup sweetness. Nothing in between. Thin, watery mouthfeel. Finishes burnt bitter. Absolutely not for me. Looks good, though!

50cl bottle from Aldi, Bracknell. An opaque dark brown pour with a thin cream head; sweet malty aroma; toffee malt taste; and a pleasant demerara sugar finish with a touch of spice. Pleasant and reminiscent of Hobgoblin.

500ml bottle from Aldi - £1.25 and mountains available - Dark brown body with a thick creamy tan head. Nose is roasted malt, light coffee, caramel, dark chocolate, light sourness, some nuts. Flavour is slightly sweet, malty, and dark cake fruits. Not too bad at all.
