Cask at Lime Kiln, Liverpool. Pours “bitter brown” with a small off-white head and good lacing. Malts are prominent in the nose, along with some hints of vanilla. Malts again in the mouth plus an overall woody texture and some underlying caramel. Traces of coffee, vanilla and ginger too. Finish is quite dry. This is nice and well balanced.

Bottle at home, picked up at Aldi at some point. It pours clear deep brown with a small beige head. The aroma is wood, earthy, leather, trek bark, spice, vanilla and stewed black tea. The taste is firmly dry, bitter, woody, tannin, spice, coffee grounds, dried fruits, slightly vinous, leather, twigs and a splash of cola with a very dry and woody finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Perhaps a bit too drying, but really not bad.

Wethersoon Autumn Beer Festival 2017. Cask @ Cuthbert Brodrick, Leeds. Clear copper with a creamy head. It has smooth vanilla in both aroma and taste, but stated in the latter. It has a fair strength but doesn’t impact on the beer’s flavour.

Pours a clear reddish amber colour with a small foamy beige head. Aroma is caramel, spice, pipe tobacco and a hint of chocolate. Taste is caramel and malt with some chocolate flavours and some oak vanilla in a dryish finish. Quite nice.
