Brownish black porter, tastes of liquorice, caramel with woody/smoke overtones. Intensely satisfying. Note that it is often sold under โ€™Growler Breweryโ€™ imagery although Nethergate remains the brewery name.

Cask at the Merchants Inn, Rugby - 17/04/13. Extremely dark mahogony brown with a good sized beige head that retains well. Nose is treacle toffee, dark malts, light strains of coffee, grain, mineral notes. Taste comprises dark toffee fudge, background chocolate, dark fruits, nutty tones. Medium bodied with a little bite, moderate carbonation, dry in the finish with a hint of bitterness. Ok stuff!

Bottle from B&M Bargains; dark brown pour with substantial beige head, roast malt aroma, quite bready malt taste I expect more coffee tones from a porter, slightly nutty some caramel.

6/1/13 Cask from The Ivory Peg, Chelmsford. Dark brown, with quite strong roasted biscuit aroma. Enjoyable, though was served a little too cold which may have affected the appreciation of the beer as have had this better before, elsewhere. May re-rate after next time. 16/12/17 from cask at Redwald's Ale House, Rendlesham. Served perfectly. Pours almost black with a small bubbly beige head. Aroma is nutty, chocolate, rich roasted malt. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Towards being full bodied, oily texture, soft to flat carbonation. Much more flavoursome served at right temperature.
