First brewed in 1950, our malty award-winning Moonraker is dedicated to a local legend. The story goes that farmers close to the JW Lees brewery once fell into a pond, attempting to rake out a reflection of the moon they mistook for a truckle of fine Lancashire cheese. This strong ale should be handled with care, but its fruity aroma and rich, sweet flavour are now the stuff of legends too.

3rd LCRBM. Slight grapes aroma. Malty, somewhat roasted flavor with grapes, raisin and a hint of cinnamon.

Clear dark red beer. Light fruit smell. Taste has malt and dried fruit with a little anise. It's pretty decent and mellow for the strength.

On cask at the Standing Order. Appearance - almost black but with orange chinks. Thin head. Nose - toffee and orange. Taste - same again but also getting into molasses bread. It opens out into prunes and candied orange peel. Still molasses. Palate - rich and medium to full bodied. Crunchy yet tangy through the middle and finish. Overall - oh yeah! A beer for the beer nerds. Make more of this kind if beer please. Complex and enjoyable.

Cask at the Standing Order. Pours clear dark amber with no head. Aromas of toffee, dried fruit, raisins. Taste has a nutty note to add. Clean finish.

500ml bottle (6.5%). Pours almost black with a thin beige head. Aroma is malty, sweet, fruitcake, caramel. Taste is sweet, malty, caramel, some dark fruits and a touch of liquorice. Medium body, soft carbonation.

Pours a ruby brown colour with a small lasting beige head. The aroma is malty bread, plum and dark fruit. A fruity malty taste, burnt toast, plum and dark fruit with a chewy bitterness in the finish.

Bottle from Kris Wines. Dark brown, opaque , ring of beige head. Sweet malt aroma, taste brings in the malt a little stronger, but it is the finish which really pleases, slow lingering sweet malt, like a nice dessert at the end of a meal. Bready, some vanilla and molasses, sweet without being cloying. Nice

On tap at The Hay Merchant. Pours a dark brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is bready malt and dark fruit. Medium mouth, fruity malt, yeast, biscuit, light finish, good.
