Bottle, flip top, from Alko. Poured golden color with a dense, thick white head. Floral, hoppy, spicy, yeasty aroma. Citrusy notes. Really peppery spicy notes in flavor, noble hops, floral notes. Mouthdrying finish. Aggressive carbonation

F: huge, white, very long lasting. C: gold, hazy. A: grassy, floral, banana, peach, yeast. T: malt, orange, grassy to earthy bitterness on the palate, banana, some chemical tones, peppery, green banana, medium body, medium to high carbonation, Duvel is better in this case but this beer is not bad, 0,33l bottle from Carrefour market - Saint-Michel @ Etterbeek, Brussels.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BB 24052017, from Alko Arkadia, 20161128) The beer poured golden and hazy. Its head was huge, white and it lasted long. Aroma had fruitiness, lemongrass and citricness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, floralness, grass, Belgian style yeast, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was fruity, sweet and bitter. A nice but  messy hoppy brew.

Pale blond colour. Aroma is a bit grassy as is the flavour. Seems less punchy than its previous incarnations. Some floral hop notes come through strongly in the finish.

Monumentális, tömör, örökké tartó hab. Illata édeskés, citrusos . Íze enyhén édes és keserű, zöldfűszeres, gyümölcsös aromákkal. Kellemes, testes sör, de valahogy nem üti meg a sima Hopus szintjét.

The newest incarnation of this hoppy version of Hopus, Lefebvre’s greatest hit at the moment. Extremely thick and rocky, coarse, egg-white head retaining towering high for a long time and at the same time leaving thick ’papery’ lacing on the edge of the glass; clear deep golden blonde colour with somewhat greenish hue, almost looking like a Duvel. Aroma of freshly cut garden weeds, sorrel, nettles, unripe gooseberry, banana ester including a certain amount of bubblegum, green apple peel, straw, wormwood, field flowers, gin, honey, tulip, jute, unripe plum. Crisp onset, sourish gooseberry and green plum mingled with a sweetish hint of banana and peach, strong carbonation distracting from the overall flavor and stinging the tongue for a long time, supple malt body, pale malt sweetishness, bit grainy but acquiring a light breadiness towards the end, where the hops come in, in a perfectly balanced, ’European’, noble kind of way, grassy, earthy and very floral, leaving a good amount of peppery bitterness drying the back of the mouth without becoming harsh; gin-like alcohol brings a warming glow after swallowing. Like the other editions of this brew and like many other modern hop-forward Belgian ales produced by established breweries, this meets the requirements of a ’Belgian IPA’ classification, but in the old school, ’noble hops’ way. The Duvel Tripel Hop editions, upon which this series seems to be inspired, are more exciting I think because of the hop varieties they use, but this one, in all its ’Belgian-ness’, is surely enjoyable. I do not find a lot of difference with the other vintages, though, but then I haven’t been following this series in detail.

[backlog] 21-08-15 / bottle bought in Belgium. Hopy nose. Strong malt base with medium sweetness. Bitter finish. TypicaL standard belgian IPA. I started rating my beers with Untappd and a few basic notes. Now I want to rate them on ratebeer. So my rating sometimes lack some information. Just ignore it, it is for my personal statistics. Bouteille 33cl. Dorée, col crémeux blanc. Arôme au nez parfumé assez houblonné, je note de fines effluves poivrées accompagnées d’un léger fleuri, et qcq agrumes, note écorce de citronnelle. Palais est finement amer, houblonné, noble assez sec niveau des malts. Citronné doux rappelant les feuilles de kaffir avec un niveau alcool qui se fait bien ressentir. Retrouve une essence belge dans la levure et les malts sur une fine note levure en fin de bouche. A une époque de transparence, on peut tjrs s’interroger pq Lefebvre s’entête à garder ses houblons comme un secret, et cela année après année.
