Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Licorice and apple syrup in the aroma. Roast, salted licorice and apple syrup in the sweet flavor. Carbonation is soft. Laurel. Not my favorite.

Shared from bottle at Maakun’s. Black. Light tan head. Sweet roasted malts. Metallic or just cold. Molasses. Sweet fruitiness apparently from appelstroop. Black match head. Some notable hoppiness. Over medium sweet and roasty bitter. Medium body, soft carbonation. Nice bitter bittersweet finish.

Bottle shared. Black with dark beige head. Roasted malts, licorice, dark caramel, don’t get much of the appelstroop but there’s some grape and overripe berries. Light grass, there’s light citrus hops in the background, but I mostly get more roast and jam. Medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with dry finish.

Opaque coal black beer, one finger foamy tan head, recedes quickly to a thin layer, light lacing. Aroma roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, hint of fruit syrup. Taste light to medium sweet and bitter. Light to medium body, oily to watery texture, soft carbonation, finish mild bitter, chocolate. Overall quite a decent (mild) stout but could use more body, I don’t taste the Canisius syrup, which is a pity.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus and Joes. Opaque very dark brown to black color, small beige head that diminishes almost instantly. Smell and taste malts, figs, molasses, slightly sweetish, lightly a hint of coffee bitter in the finish. Average to medium body and carbonation. Hmm it’s ok.
