Anchor Saison is a traditional Belgian-style saison with a California twist. The distinctiveness of roasted Belgian wheat malt is enhanced by the peppery, clove-like flavors of a locally cultured saison-style yeast. And, for this release, we chose three California ingredients—lemongrass, lemon peel, and ginger—whose synergy adds a tangy crispness and herbal spiciness to this sharply refreshing, uniquely Californian saison.

Bottle. A fruity and spicy yeast dominated saison with heavy notes of citrus. The maltiness is maybe a bit too sweet.

Bottle. Amber beer with a cream head. Yeast and malt aroma with light citrus and light spice. Malt and yeast flavor wtih spice and citrus. Medium bodied. Malt and spice lingers with yeast and citrus.

Bottle. Orange amber with a minimal head. Aroma is ginger tea. Flavour is dry ginger, a little spicy yeast, tea leaves on a spicy finish.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; clear amber pour with a big off white head, yeast and banana aroma, taste is very wit with spice, banana, some phenols, Belgian yeast character, not the most saison of saisons.

Bottle from BottleDog, London and drunk at home. Clear amber colour with thick lasting beige head. Wool and light farmyard yeast aroma. Very light in saison yeast character. Hmmm, not sure I like this. Almost some cardboard. Yes some hop presence on the finish. But it’s no like any other saison I’ve had. How it looks and the hoppy finish are best things about it. Malts are a little sweet but balance the hops well. Too little saison yeast character for me.

12 oz bottle. Pours a ruddy amber, odd colored saison, medium to large white head that last for a little while. Some soapy lacing on the glass. Lemon and apples in the aroma, some clove and earthy grass or hay notes too. Taste is overwhelmingly lemon and clove. Allowed to warm and open up a bit, the lemon and clove die down and allow some of the citrus and and earthiness come out which better balances the palate and makes for a nice saison if not the most subtle interpretations.

Lightly hazy gold beer, tidy off white head. Palate is light and semi dry and crispy. Touch of cream in the light malt. Floral yeast. Sweet bubblegum. Candy fruits and a little spice. Finishes dry and crisp. All flavours in good balance. Nice saison.

355ml bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - amber with a decent head. Nose - cake and spice in fact ginger cake. Taste - ginger biscuits with a white pepper and sorbet tang on the end. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy yet tangy and crunchy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - not quite typical Saison style but very enjoyable. The ginger is perhaps a bit too dominant though.

355ml bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours clear gold, thin white head. Good saison yeasty aroma, white pepper, citrus, bread. Taste is more of the same, hint of ginger. Light-bodied for the strength. Light sweet finish. Good.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours light amber/copper with a slight creamy white head. Aroma is Belgian yeast with citrus zest and something like the old Dentyne gum. Which was cinnamon? Near med body. Flavor is earthy, lightly malty, very zesty and spicy - ginger? Still makes me think of Dentyne. It’s rather citrus, and sprightly. Yet finishing rather earthy. Very good drink.
