Pours near-black with a frothy tan head and a mellow roasted malt aroma, with hints of chocolate and coffee. Creamy smooth, with sweet chocolate, dark fruits and coffee bitterness nicely balanced on top of the roasted malt, the finish is dry and slightly bitter

Pours black , creamy , off white head. Smell is mild, tad roasty, rather weak though. Taste is sharp, relatively thin ( yes, i'm aware of the ABV ). Roasty, showing a mild acidic touch by the roastyness. luckely, there's some lactose to pull things back to the center, even though the lactose doesn't really show on its own. rather high carbonation. bit of a boring ale to me, even within style. has a bit of a more chemical sweetener ending, almost like stevia or something ( though it's not stevia exactly ) , that i'm not used to in lactose beers. Not a big fan.

Tap at Beer Dock, Crewe Another old(ish) favourite that I have got around to rating before. Pours jet black with a small cream head and good lacing. Nose is lactose and milk chocolate. Lactose and chocolate again in the mouth, but also hints of cola and roast malts. A nice creamy finish as well. This is the classic milk stout.

Keg at PoW, Farnborough. Low key chocolate and malt aroma. Dark. Creamy beige head. Initial creamy chocolate sweetness with some coffee bitterness. Then sour edged dark berries comes through. Medium bodied. Creamy. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long slightly astringent finish. Enjoyable creamy stuff.
