We made this beer for BXL fest 2020, unfortunately cancelled due to a certain pandemic. We are still proud to release this beer as part of their exclusive beer package and hope to see you all in 2021 in Brussels. Manneken Vis is a farmhouse ale with a mix of our house saison blend and the mudking yeast/bacteria culture. We added fresh elderflowers, which our entire team picked in and around Utrecht. The result is refreshing slightly sour and funky beer with summery aromas of the flowers and character of the yeast.

Pale and clear golden with no lasting head. Sour grains, stonefruit sour, some yuzu, light elderflower herbal and floral notes. Thin body, weak carbonation. Pleasant wild brew, with room to improve in the balance of things. Taste good, mouthfeel poor.

Special ‘Brussels’ farmhouse ale by Kromme Haring flavoured with elderblossom, 75 cl bottles made exclusively for the BXL Beerfest, which was cancelled this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Medium sized, off-white, irregularly lacing, opening head on a lightly hazy straw blonde beer with golden to pale greenish hue and lively fizz, cloudy with sediment. Aroma of indeed elderblossom but in a very fresh and flowery way (without that typical cooked-meaty aspect I normally get from it), green apple, damp straw, kiwi, lime, something sulfuric (freshly struck match), parsley, sourdough, cucumber, white grape, chamomile, cava, light sweaty touch. Crisp, fruity onset, sourish lime-like effect but in a very elegant, gentle way, lots of green apple, hints of gooseberry, pear and white grape, lively but refined carbonation, supple body; continuing ‘fruity’ sourishness through a white-bready and cereally malt base, aromatized by the elderblossom, again very flowery and genuine, and a bit spicy; the ‘green’ sour-sweetish fruitiness keeps refreshing everything, also when a bready yeast effect shows up, while hops remain limited to a vague background bitterishness and allow the fruitiness and floweriness to fully blossom. Very elegant, refreshing, spring-like ‘bière d’apéritif’, almost a beery equivalent of German Maitrank or a fruity sparkling wine. Lovely testimony of this brewery’s skills, one of Holland’s very best in my opinion.

Clear golden with a tiny and short lived white head. Aroma had a nice soft funk, bretty but light, along with quite some citrus, tart and fresh lemon, oak, yeast and light herbal notes. Flavour is puckering acidic. Medium bodied with light carbonation.
