11.2 oz Bottle from Johns market; nose of caramel, vanilla, and rye; clear rusty brown with a big bige head that immediately foamed out of the bottle when uncapped; flavor of toffee, some sweetness, and some figs. Very good!

Bottle, 8.5%. Weak sugary aroma. Hazy brown colour, small head. The flavour is OK malty, slightly sweet with a hint of cream. Some marcipan to flavour along with a little rough bitterness. Rough and mild in a good combination. High carbonation and good alcohol level.

11.2 oz. bottle. Hazy orange color with a creamy white head. Faint toasted malt aroma. Dryish, bittersweet malt flavor with a moderate dry, peppery finish. Noticeable alcohol prescence. Average for it’s style.

(Bottle 33 cl) Pours a cloudy, warm, dark, orangey golden with a tall, dense and lasting off-white head leaving quite some lacework. Lightly fusty aroma. Quite a full body, sweetish caramel, notes of wood and apple/calvados, sherry and earth. Very complex and very lovely. 180807

Bottle picked up from Carrefour, Lille, 30-07-07. Poured murky warm gold colour, with large erupting white head of foam. Having had two other Biere de garde’s in recent day’s I’m getting to notice the style now and this seemed quite typical of the style although the alcohol did become a little invasive at times. Some toffeeiness in the mouth, bit malty and sweet but fine.

Aroma of stone fruit and yeast, almost berry or cherry. Deep reddish amber color with a beige head that was vigorous and laced a minim. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, something of a tart cherry flavor. The malt is something yeasty or musty or earthy, and the finish is kind of balanced between the malt flavors and some fruit bitter, like sucking on seeds or pits. This real ale needs to be slowly sipped. Fantastically rewarding.

Bottle. Dry musty malt aroma. Reddish amber with gigantic head initially that collapses quickly. Sharp acidity hits the tongue first followed by light musty malt with a moderate hops finish. Light body but the mustiness linger quite a while after swallowing. Good but could use more body.

(Bottle at La Gueuze, Paris, 15 Oct) Dark amber colour with explosive, foamy, beige head. Fruity nose with notes of dried apricots, raisins and figs. Slightly metallic. Fruity taste with dried apricots (or peaches?), figs and prunes. Notes of chocolate and plums. Starts slightly sweet, turns drier in the spicy finish. Well balanced and very nice.
