500ml bottle. Poured a clear almost black colour with a short-lived, frothy off-white head. The aroma is roasty malt, big coffee. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter, with a smooth, dry, smoky, roasty, coffee, earthy, light caramel, liqourice bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle from from Aldi. Dark brown in colour, with a tight, beige, head. Big and slightly sweet coffee notes throughout, a touch of chocolate smoothness, leading to a lingering, roasted malt finish. Enjoyable.

500ml, pours black, small beige head and decent retention. As soon as I opened the bottle a lovely smell of expresso coffee leaped out and I don't even drink the stuff. Once poured the aromas were coffee, roasted malts, a softer chocolate note, peanuts, some hay initially from the head but this faded. Taste is roasted coffee beans and malts from the start then as the moderate bitterness builds you get the mellow chocolate and peanut notes which balances this beautifully. The moderate to full body is lovely and compliments the flavours. A note on the carbonation as I think it requires the perfect pour. The first half of the bottle I poured with slanted glass and the carbonation I found too frothy but did settle 1/3rd down to a very nice level. The second half I poured hard and there was little carbonation left.

Bottle from Aldi, Camden on 30th November 2020. Almost impenetrably black to sepia with tan foam and scant lacing. Spicy roast malt aroma. Coffee, raisins and spices in-mouth making this a good candidate for a Christmas ale though not marketed as such. A spicy finish with sweet winter berries and coffee roast malt. Medium bodied with an engaging texture. Pleasant and different.

Bottle from Aldi. Coffe Stout by name, coffee stout by nature ! There is a really strong aroma of espresso. Pours almost jet black with a strong beige head. In the mouth the coffee mutates into a latte, with roasted malts backing it up to give a creamy nature and juicy flavour. The finish has the bitterness of coffee grounds mixed with some fruit and raisins. This is gorgeous !

Note to the Admin. I'm guessing it's brewed at Marstons as it's released at the same time as the toffee ale and looks very similar. Feel free to correct any errors. Thanks 50cl bottle from Aldi. Thin creamy beige head. Clear black pour. Hint of coffee. not bad. I'd buy this again. --- Beer merged from original tick of Marston's Harpers Coffee Stout on 28 Sep 2020 at 20:57 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7.
