Dry-hopped French Farmhouse Ale

This particular beer is an interesting joint effort with an English brewery. It uses one hop varietal, a rather unusual hop grown in Kent called ‘Bramling Cross.’ The malt is from 2-row spring barley grown in France.

On tap at Lord Hobo, Cambridge, MA. Clear pale gold with a white head. Aroma has a lager-like quality, with a bit of skunk, floral notes, grass, and spice. Flavor is similar to aroma, with additional spice and some funkiness. Has a dry finish. Not bad.

4 oz draft pour at The Sovereign as a welcoming gift for the preview event. Golden orange with off-white head. Aromas of floral notes, biscuit, herbs. Tastes of floral notes, malt, citrus, herbs, spices. Almost like a cross between an IPA and saison.

Wonderfully done. The perfect mix between hay aroma, light citrus and a hint of pepper. Golden pour with good head and lacing. Light bitter finish with a touch of tang. Tap at Churchkey.

Bottled @ de Molen tasting, small sample. Slight hazy yellow to golden color, short frothy head. Aroma of spicy and grassy noble hop, just slight spicy yeast. Medium bitter in taste, slight dry. More like an urtyp or classic german pilsener, but hardly any farmhouse or saison character. No problem to me, it’s nice and flavorful.

Sampled from bottle @ De Molen 2nd Tuesday Tasting. Clear golden color, medium sized white head. Smell and taste malts, nicely hoppy, nicely bitter. Not really what I had expected from a saison but it’s a nice beer.

750ml bottle pours a hazy, deep gold with some clumpy, white head. Nose is honey, grass, brie cheese, lemon, some malt, a little cardboard. Flavor is similar, sweet, pilsner malt, grass, noble hops, light cheese, honey, floral, orange peel. Fairly high carbonation and a silky finish. I would love to try this uber fresh as I think the hop profile has faded quite a bit. Overall, not bad.
