The combination of aromas evokes malt loaf or ginger cake. On the palate, smooth & fruity espresso, milk chocolate, and warm brandy-soaked currants are in the middle of a high-class dance-off off against the spicy and peppery Belgian character. the mouthfeel is smooth and rich, and the beer pours a deep copper colour.
Malts:Extra pale, munich, crystal, chocolate, wheat
Hops:Waimea, Saaz, Fuggles

A soft tan head on a dark brown body. The nose is powerful featuring brown sugar, some sourness, booze, dark berries and a touch of vanilla. The Abstrakt series has a range of strengths, but hitting complex dark tastes is its strongest. This one is up there with the best of them. The taste profile features dark brown sugar, figs, dates, caramel and tobacco. There is little if any Belgian yeast but undertastes of nutmeg, plums, caramel, vanilla and balancing hops add to this dark taste adventure. One of the very best.

1 March 2025. At Winter Belgian Beer Geek Gathering. Many thanks to hosting, Tim & Marina, and cheers to the whole crew! Bottled: 11/03/2014.
Old fondant, dusty raisin, fig, prune, dark furniture, attic. Sweetish oxidized prune & fig, dusty milk chocolate, toffee. Peppery hops, quickly covered in dried fruits and oxidization, and warming white port-like alcohol. Medium body, flat carbonation. Evidently too old, but interesting nevertheless. Enjoyed it.

375ml bottle (2014) @ Belgian Beer Geeks Winter Gathering. Pours a hazed dark brown, no head remaining. Flat, leathery, slightly oxidised but aged better than I thought, an appealing quad sweetness is retained but not sure I could stomach a full bottle.

Bottle at Belgian Beer Geeks Gathering. 11 years old. Dark brown, no head. Dusty, soft oak, toffee, oxidization, caramel, port, brown sugar. Quite sweet, low bitter. Medium bodied, flat. Way too old by now, there's not much left.

Backlog April 2018. Oily amber body without any head. Vinous aroma with dry fruit and caramel. Taste is strong dry fruit, soy, dark malt and booze. Full bodied with alcoholic aftertaste. Bold, but not very elegant.

(Bottle) Dark brown colour with brief bubbles. Malty, slightly roasted, vinous nose with notes of dried fruit, raisins, dates, coffee, spices, brown sugar, apricots, liquorice, nuts and a touch of rum. Malty, roasted taste with dried fruit, dates, raisins, coffee, brown sugar, dried apricots, liquorice and a sweetish finish with a mild spicy bitterness. Almost full body, sweet. Quite sweet and powerful but complex and really tasty. Very nice.
