On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Black colour, low tan head. Pleasant roasty and fruity aroma, hints of exotic woodwork. Very little carbonation. Warming mouthfeel, The flavour is heavily roasty, notes of very strong coffee and dark bitter chocolate, not very sweet. A solid hoppy and roasty bitterness in the finish.

Keg at Cask. Very black with small beige head. Aroma is boozy almost vodka, bit of coffee, burnt malts. Taste is coffee, dark burnt malt, very bitter. Bit of a whisky smell and a nice roasty finish. It's nice, but maybe doesn't hide it's alcohol as well as I might have hoped.

Tap @Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fa in Rome. Black color, tick and big brownish (dark) foam. Nose: a bit creamy, truly roasty, root, olive. Mouth: clean, low perception of alcohol, sweet cocoa powder, milky.

Keg @ Vocation & Co, Hebden Bridge. Black with a thin head. Has a good strength but palatably so with a stated roasted malts character.

Bottle enjoyed on a night out in Bristol a while back. Backlog rating from bottle collection and historic scoring. No tasting notes kept, just rating. Very good.

Draught at Oliver Twist, 11/28/16.
Pitch black body shows light clarity on the edges and a fluffy, dark beige-to-tan head with moderate retention.
I’m always extremely nervous ordering beers over 7 or 8% and especially ones this high but I really enjoyed the first Magic Rock I had so I figured I’d suck it up and get the 8oz pour. The nose is rich with cocoa, fudge, caramel and ample roast character to offset it. It balances quite nicely, and there isn’t any noxious alcohol or huge boozy ester character. Quite vinous actually, but with a "softer" graham cracker and vanilla base malt character that is augmented with light green hop notes and no surplus of acidity from the hops.
In the mouth it’s fairly thick, though importantly not sluggish or syrupy. Graham cracker, caramel, milk chocolate and espresso vie for dominance as boisterous dark fruits brighten things. Soft, ample carbonation, good attenuation and little booziness. Very nice stuff! Will continue to seek out Magic Rock
