Born from a conversation between a chocolatier, lee from pure origin chocolate and ourselves we embarked on creating a chocolate stout.

On tap at the Red Squirrel. Appearance - not quite black but definitely opaque. Nose - dark chocolate. Almost going into a raisin thing. Taste - chocolate raisins and a bih tobacco note. Lovely Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - just about beer of the day. But one more to try.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines. Poured a deep mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is weak roast with a hint of chocolate. The flavour is medium bodied with a watery sweet hop, slightly medicinal palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and a short bitter finish, If i’m honest, I think this may have been infected. It wasn’t anywhere near what I expected.

(Cask at Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell, London, 23 Nov 2013) Black colour with foamy, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, coffee, vanilla and roasted malt. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, dark bread, chocolate truffles and a slightly citric bitterness in a fairly dry finish. Medium body, with a hint of sweetness. Excellent and well balanced stout with a generous chocolatey character. Very nice.

Cask at the Euston tap. Opaque black colour with a dense light tan head. Aroma is milky chocolate coffee. Very mellow. Flavour is chocolate milk light mellow roast. Palate is full fat milk. Light carb / nitro. Clean and mellow stout and very drinkable. I could session this very easily.

Black pint with a decent foamy head. Aroma is dark chocolate and a hint of malt.Livelier on the tongue than I expected and the taste is less sweet than I imagined. It doesn’t have as much body as you’d expect of a stout and the flavour isn’t as sweet as I anticipated, it’s surprisingly dry. Not at all what I thought it would be and possibly better for it. It’s not my favourite of this style but it’s quite drinkable all the same.
