Bottled from speciaalbierpakket, dated 23/10/2013, large sample. Slight hazy copper color, short frothy head. Aroma of caramel malt, toffee, bit toast, hint of roast, some green tea. Bit biscuity sweetness, slight hint of alcohol, bit bitter. Really has that english strong ale feel to it, together with a slight spicy and chocolatey belgian note. Decent complexity. Nice beer.

(Draught at Butcher’s Tears, Amsterdam, 28 Feb 2014) Dark reddish brown colour with brief, foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, caramel and roasted malt. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark bread, caramel, chocolate, coffee and a balanced spicy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a slight sweetness. Well balanced and quite tasty. Nice one.

Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a dark mahogany with a frothy broken off-white head. The aroma is of yeast, a little raisin and some smoke too. The flavour is medium sweet light bitter with a spicy hop smokey palate and a long bitter finish. One of the best beers I’ve had from Butchers Tears. Nicely balanced and very drinkable.
