Almost black body, with a big, not very stable, frothy, dark beige to brown head.
Aroma of melting dark chocolate, nuts, some coffee, some spices.
Taste follows this, with some more dark fruits and slight dry wood.
Full, oily mouthfeel, with a soft carbonation.
Finishes alcohol warming, a bit astringent, roasty, wooden, with dark chocolate, coffee and dark fruits.

Tasty! Like a roasty coffee with liquid bitter chocolate. Pretty filling, but well balanced and quite smooth to drink. A comfortable, warming winter ale!

Bottled, thanks fonefan! Dark brown, firm rich head. Toasty nose with licorice, marzipan and coffee. Mid dry with full body and rounded mouthfeel. Clover, asphalt, coffee. Warming finish with long herbal bitterness.

Bottle at home. Pours dark brown, almost black with big beige head. Aroma of dark bread, caramel, chocolate, coffee, alcohol, ashes, smoke, some spices and fruits. Taste roasted bitterness with sone sweetness. Medium bodied, smooth mouth feel. Nice winter beer.

Draft at ChurckKey. Poured a clear brown color with a small tan head. Aroma was some cinnamon, cloves. Flavor was sweet malts, light peat. Light alcohol notes.

Bottle - I know this is probably a year old at this point, but when I found it discounted at 3 bucks a bottle I couldn’t say no - besides, I figured this probably held up well, and despite the bottle gushing when I opened it, it really has - black pour, fluffy carbonation in the head - nose is leather, smoke, prune, tamarind, charred wood, licorice, along with a slight savory/meaty character - slick mouthfeel - medium sweet and spicy front end, like dark chocolate and licorice root - smoke and prune - a savory umami quality late to cut the sweetness - some alcohol warmth on the tail end - very tasty, even with the age on it - the mild oxidation actually adds an interesting depth to the finish - very much enjoying this.
