500ml bottle from Asda, Chelmsley Wood, Birmingham. Still shocked they had a new beer stocked, even if it is an old classic! Fairly clear reddish brown pour with brief fizzy head, no lasting head which is disappointing. Aroma is malty, sweet with a lovely plum fruitiness coming through. Taste is malts, toast, caramel, plum, long bitter finish. A little on the light side so for me the flavours don't carry as well as they could. Its decent but for some reason I was expecting better.

Can't believe I've never rated this one before. This one goes back to my dim and distant youth in the Cotswolds when my father used to drink this stuff. This is a best bitter with a weight towards the sweet malt but with some bitter hops. As ever with this brewery there's a lot going on with this beer and I always have a soft spot for all their beers. Even the completely bonkers double stout.

Bottle from Morrisons. Pours a clear deep rusty copper colour with a thinnish off-white head. Aromas of dark fruits, berries, caramel and toasty bread. Taste is again fruity with more caramel and toasty bread, some peppery spice and some roasty and earthy notes on the finish. Full bodied, average carbonation and a smooth oily mouthfeel. Very good.

31/12/2019. Bottle from Darts Farm, Topsham, Devon. Pours copper amber with a bubbly/frothy off-white head. Aroma of toffee, sweet malt, nut, fruit, biscuit. Medium plus sweetness and light bitterness. Medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation. Sweet nutty finish, bit too sweet but quite drinkable.
