(Bottle) Hazy dark reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with dried fruit, dates, fruit cake, treacle toffee, apricots marmalade, nuts, chocolate and orange peel. Malty, slightly vinous taste with dates, dried fruit, bread, treacle toffee, caramel, apricot marmalade, nuts, chocolate, orange peel and a mild spicy bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, sweet. Clean and well balanced, hides the alcohol quite well. Very nice.

Lime, caramel and toffee. A little coffee and root. Dark brown pour with good head and lacing. Bittersweet finish. Pretty nice barley wine, and I don't often love barley wines. Tap at Shelter.

Goblet at Shelter pours a translucent amber with a ring of beige head. Nose has malt, raisin, dried cherry, caramel, booze. Flavor has malt and booze and treacle and caramel. A bit simpler in the mouth. Full bodied, bitter, boozy finish.

16oz can pours out amber topped with a sand head. Nose is sweet caramel toffee malts and some spice. Taste is more of the nice sweet caramel toffee malts and some heat.

16oz can at share. Dark brown pour, opaque, small bubbly beige head. Malty aroma, toffee, sweet, hoppy. Taste is strong and malty, sweet, and the hops knock it it a little off balance, mild resin.

Tasting at Phill's, can
Dark amber colour, medium sized head. Moderately sweet, it doesn't have the malt depth of the best Barley Wines, more hopping than an English Barley Wine, maybe not the levels of an American one, but there is some disturbing pithy bitterness making up for it (sarcasm).
Not very interesting, just booze.

Auburn-brown colour, medium head. Dates and raisin, light esters, chill sweet malt. Good balance, subtle, itβs got English character and American strength, which is a really compelling combination for me.

A proper English pint @ Phill's. Appearance: hazy copper with a beige head. Aroma: caramel, some light hops and sweet fruity character. Taste: along the same lines, quite hoppy. Overall: these guys probably don't know what English Barleywine is, so just brewed an American one and called it an English one.
